AUTHOR'S NOTE: Hi everyone! I'm going to be switching the depiction of Tory to Leighton Meester. Older stories will still show the 'old' Tory, but from here on out, she resembles Leighton.

"She always disappears and works on herself. There is nothing wrong with being private, especially if it is what you need to survive" - Sarah Claire

"Hi Grandma, I'm sorry I'm going to be late to Friday night dinner this week" I said, trying to sound as sad as I could without freaking out happily.

"Oh it's okay. Are you ok?" She asked concerned.

"No everything's good, I just have to fly back Friday night from interviews for summer medical internships. I have more next week as well. I'm sorry" I said, apologizing although I felt not the least bit guilty.

"Oh what's schools?! Your mother hasn't said anything about this.. I didn't even know you were applying" Grandma said.

"I haven't told her yet. She and Rory have just been really busy, I didn't want to bother them. I've got to fly to Johns Hopkins, Cleveland Clinic, Cincinnati Children's Hospital and Mayo Clinic, but I can drive to Sloan-Kettering, Harvard, Yale, Mount Sinai, Mass Gen, and Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston" I said, and I could hear her clap for happiness.

"Oh congratulations! That's incredible. 10 total, correct? Do you have enough suits? Nonsense, you have to look your best and if I know you, you have one of your mother's old ones that probably doesn't fit you quite right" Grandma said.

And that was how I ended up on a shopping spree with Grandma for 3 different suit outfits that I could wear on my interviews. I needed three in case one got a stain and the other wasn't back from dry cleaning/airline lost my bag.

"Grandma, can we stop for some coffee?" I asked, as we were three hours deep in getting suits, shirts, shoes, stockings, portfolio folders... Grandma was a marathon shopper.

"Oh of course. Let me just have them hold all of that for us at the counter. Janice!" She called, as she gave all of our bags to this lady who had been following us around like a puppy getting everything for Grandma and I.

"Thank you Grandma, I can't say thank you enough for this" I said, as we finally waited in line at a coffee cart in the mall.

"Oh of course darling! Tory, I want to make sure you look your best for these interviews. You're a brilliant girl, and I just to make sure you look the part as well. Your grandfather and I are so proud of you. Your grandfather even wants us to meet him afterwards so he can help prep you for your interviews. If you had told us sooner, we would have gotten a professional for this, but Richard wants to help as well so why not?" Grandma said, as she smiled brightly at me. Surprisingly, I reached over and gave her a tight hug, which undoubtedly shocked her.

"Thank you Grandma. Really...you don't know how much I appreciate this" I said, with a smile.

"You're welcome, Tory. You can always count on your grandfather and I" She replied, when we finally made it up to the counter to get coffee.

By the time we got to see Grandpa, Grandma had bought me 2 matching pant suits, 2 matching skirt suits, a leather portfolio, a nice travel carry-on suitcase, and matching heels.

"Emily! Tory! You two are home! How was shopping? Get some good interview clothes?" Grandpa asked when we got to their house. I smiled, giving him a tight hug.

"Yes, she's going to look absolutely marvelous for those interviews. Very professional" Grandma insisted, before looking to me and smiling.

"Of course, I don't doubt your abilities for a second" Grandpa said, smiling at her. "Now, I've got a list of potential interview questions, would you like to go over them in my office?"

"Yes, that sounds perfect. Thank you again Grandma" I said, hugging her tightly, before going off to practice with Grandpa.

"You're going to do great. Emily, our granddaughter's a genius" Grandpa said, two hours later when we finished all of the questions and interview tips he had prepared for me. Grandma had convinced me to stay for dinner as I would be missing Friday's nights as well.

"Of course she is. Tory is a Gilmore" She said, with a extremely happy smile on her face. I was glad I was making them proud.

"Now, which one do you want the most?" Grandpa asked.

"Well, I think Mayo Clinic, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Johns Hopkins, and Mass Gen have the best programs, but it'll depend more on the details if the offers come in. Those are just my top on the information I've received so far" I said, and Grandpa and Grandma both shared a knowing, smiling look.

"You're going to get accepted to all of them, dear. I want you to promise me that as soon as they let you know the decision, you let us know"  Grandma said. I nodded, and soon dinner was finished.

Time Skip - Friday Night

Emily's POV

When everyone finally arrived to dinner, it was evident the clear divide that had set in with Rory, Lorelai and Tory. I looked to Richard, sadly, as we watched Lorelai talk about what Rory had been accomplishing in school, and I felt bad, looking at Tory who just sat there with a brave face.

"So, Tory, how was your week?" I asked, trying to get her to join the conversation. She smiled politely at me.

"It's been busy, as usual. Nothing special" she said, looking to both Richard and I knowingly. I nodded.

"Yea, I never see you anymore. But, I'm just so busy with my job with Logan's dad and then Logan. This job is incredible" Rory said, talking again about it. I was thrilled for Rory's opportunity, but I couldn't help but feel a bit angry that Tory wasn't able to share her successes as well.

After dinner, I gave Tory an extra tight hug, before letting her go back to Yale.

"I feel terrible for her. I can't believe Lorelai would do something like this" Richard said, as we lay in bed that night.

"It's sibling rivalry, I guess. I'm just glad we're here for Tory. We're her support system, now. And if that's what she wants, I won't complain" I said, content that we were so close to our granddaughter.

"Yes, that's exactly what she needs. I'm so proud of her. Not that I'm not proud of Rory, but what Tory's doing is exceptional" Richard said.

"Yes, and we need her to know that. When she gets her acceptances, let's get her a gift. She deserves it" I said, thinking.

"What do you think she'll want?" He asked.

"I don't know. Clearly we can't ask Lorelai" I said, with a bit of an attitude at the end.

"I know you'll think of the perfect thing" He said, before kissing me lightly and going to sleep.
