Everything seemed to come back to me when I woke up. Haley freaking left me and now I was in a mental institution, somewhere I didn't belong.
I had been changed into a gray worn out nursing outfit but by who?
The door opened revealing a nurse, she had gray hair that was in a bun, wrinkles from her head to her feet and a outfit like mine that read 'Nancy'.
She grinned at me. "Good Afternoon Mac."
"How do you know my name?"
"I know all my patients name."
"I'm not a patient." I mumbled.
"Of course you are. Come on its time for dinner." She dragged me by my arm.
I went threw the lunch line with a tray, the lunch lady plopped down something gray.
"What is this?" I asked.
"Meatloaf."
I continued further down, grabbing a milk and apple.
There was a lunch room full of people either eating or talking. I took a seat at a nearby table and begin to eat my apple.
I took every person in, they were all creepy and old looking. It seemed like they've been here for ages.
My thoughts wondered back to the boy in the hallway, he somehow caught my attention maybe it was hair or his alluring attitude.
But I wanted to know his reason for being here.
Someone snapped their fingers in front of my face and I looked forward, it was a boy around my age. He had dark hair and brown eyes.
He had sat down in the empty seat in front of me. "Are you okay Mac?"
"Uhm yeah..but how do you know my name and Who are you?"
His eyes widened. "That dosage they gave you must've knocked out your memory. I'm Calum...your best friend."
I looked at him dumbfounded. "I've never met you before.. listen Calum." I begin, leaning forward. "Me and my friend snuck in here and then we got caught..well actually I did because she ran and left me."
He chuckled. "Did you eat any meatloaf?"
"No!" I exclaimed, "I'm not crazy."
"Mac don't say that out loud that will make you stay in here longer."
I massaged my forehead, this whole situation gave me a headache and I wasn't getting nowhere with Calum.
"Do you want me to tell you what happened?" He asked.
I already knew what happened.
"Sure go ahead." I mumbled.
"You were trying to escape but then you got caught and they sedated you."
I mentally rolled my eyes. Calum figured out that I was done with the subject when I didn't respond instead he changed it.
"There's a new guy that got admitted last night he'll be in here soon."
I looked up and saw the boy from the hallway, he was walked by the guards to a empty table then they left.
"Oh my gosh..there he is."
"I've seen him before." I mumbled.
"I highly doubt that Mac..He hasn't be allowed out until now."
Here we go again.
I locked eyes again with the mysterious guy..we just starred into each other's eyes nothing else.
I realized what I was doing and snapped out of my phase when I heard Calum talking.
"...They say that he went ballistic at age 13 and almost killed this guy because he started picking at him and stabbed him in the hand with a pencil. They never did anything about it though. Then at 16 he jumped off a bridge due to schizophrenia and was admitted to here and this is his second time back."
I raised an eyebrow. "Where did you hear that from?"
"The guards." He cheekily smiled at me.
I smiled lightly, my eyes wondering to the same boy again.
Later on, we were admitted back to our rooms for the rest of the day. I laid on my bed, flipping threw a journal that I found in my draw.
On the cover it read.
Mackenzie Elizabeth Anne Sharp in cursive letters. The journal dated back to all the way from 2010 but I never have started a journal. I opened it to the first page.
February 8, 2010
Dear Journal,
Momma was going even crazier, I would find her in the corner rocking back in forth. I would ask her what's wrong and she would say demons then scream. After some point I stopped asking, I became independent I had to cook, clean, and grocery shop. I still miss my dad. *sigh* I wish he never left.
Sincerely,
Mackenzie.
I shut the diary, my mom wasn't crazy and my dad didn't leave. I almost had the perfect family, my mom was a stay at home mom while my dad went out work. I had a little sister, Jesse who was eleven at the time. Our family was functional.
I wondered if they are looking for me or what Haley told them. Haley was a backstabber, all these years I thought she was my best friend but I was wrong.
Haley was the least of my concern, I had to focus on how I was getting out of here.
But I would tomorrow, sleep invaded me and I was out.
