Chapter 14

"How about you, what is the story behind your rule?" her nose was still red from crying.

"Rule?" balik na tanong lang ni Lorenz sa kanya.

"Rule, yung you will stop dating the girl if they fall in love with you thing mo." kibit balikat na sagot nya dito.

"Why are you asking? Don't tell me you are ......" nakakaloko ang ngiti na iyon ni Lorenz sa kanya.

"Ano na naman yang iniisip mo, eh di wag mong sagutin."  napairap na lang sya dito at humarap sa kabilang side. Natahimik pa ito kaya naman lalo syang nagsintemyento at pinagtuunan na lang ng pansin ang mga damo sa tabi niya.

"You already know that I don't like seeing a girl cry, especially if I will be the reason....I have witnessed how my mother cried because of my father." napaharap sya dito, he was still smiling.

"As you can see, I don't have a perfect family. When I was young my parents used to quarrel all the time, even the simplest things pinagtatalunan nila. But my mom loves my father so much." nun lang ito naging seryoso.

"It comes to the point na naghiwalay sila dahil hindi na talaga sila magkasundong dalawa. That's when everything crumble down to my mother. She would cry every day because of that. " naikuyom ni Lorenz ang kamay pagkasabi nun, hindi sya sanay na makita na ganito si Lorenz.

"She always tells me that she don't know what to do anymore. That she loves my father so much it's already hurting her." napatawa pa ito ng mahina.

"Do you hate him?" naitanong na lang nya dito.

"Ha?" 

"Your father, do you hate him for what happened to your mom?" dagdag pa nya dito.

Huminga muna ito ng malalim bago sumagot. "Honestly yes, lalo nung mga panahon na nakikita ko kung paano nahirapan ang mommy ko. Now kahit papano, he's making an effort to make up for all the mistakes he has done on the past. They're starting over again, I guess."

"You're afraid that you will hurt the feelings of others if they fall in love with you especially if in the end you will just left them, tama ba? "Tss are you saying that, because you already experience getting hurt while falling in love?" napangiti din si Lorenz pagkasabi non. Napailing sya bilang sagot.

"Sabi ko naman sayo kanina, I'm very busy before, wala na akong time para sa mga ganyang bagay. My friends told me that." natawa pa sya ulet.

"Why?" nakangiting tanong nya kay Lorenz ng balingan nya ito, nakakatitig kasi ito sa kanya.

"Does somebody told you that you look more beautiful when you're smiling." automatic na nawala ng ngiti nyang iyon dahil sa narinig.

"Tsk, I just told you, you're more beautiful when you smile." inilagay pa nito ang magkabilang kamay sa pisngi nya, then lift her cheeks to force her to smile.

"That's better."  natawang nasabi pa nito kaya naman nakitawa na din sya dito.

They just looked at the lake without saying anything. It was a comfortable silence. Napapasulyap pa si Lorenz kay Belle at ganun din naman si Belle kay Lorenz.

Out of nowhere ay bigla na lang nagring ang phone ni Lorenz. "Tss it must be Clover." reklamo pa nito but upon seeing the caller ID, unknown number ito.

"Bakit ayaw mo pang sagutin." tanong sa kanya ni Belle.

"Hindi naman nakaregister yung number sa phone ko." kibit balikat na sagot lang nito.

"Malay mo naman importante. O kaya isa sa mga girlfriends mo." 

"Tsss, fine sasagutin ko na." 

Hindi muna sya nagsalita ng sagutin ang tawag na iyon.

"Hello goodevening, sorry if I called you at this time of the night." hindi familiar ang boses na iyon kay Lorenz.

"Is this Lorenzo Dela Torre?"dagdag pa nito sa kabilang linya.

"Yes, who's this? And how do you get my personal mobile number?" naging tanong nya dito.

"Ah sorry hindi ko pa pala naintroduce ang sarili ko. This is Noel Villarama." biglang naikuyom ni Lorenz ang kamay nya at napatingin sa gawi ni Belle na tumayo na at may tinitingnan sa tabi ng puno.

He wanted to end the call and run to Belle, pero hindi nya ginawa. Pinipigil nya ang inis na nararamdaman.

"Hello are you still there? I'm sorry I got your number from your secretary. We've been calling your office since last week and ang sabi nga ng secretary mo you're out of town." dagdag pa nito.

He needed to remind himself na kakausapin nya ang secretarya nyang iyon pagbalik nya ng opisina.

"Yes, I currently have important things to settle somewhere." matipid nyang sagot.

"Ganon ba, as you can see my company have an important project. We personally picked your firm and we would like you to handle the construction of one of our building." masiglang saad nito kay Lorenz ngunit wala sa kausap nya ang kanyang atensyon kundi kay Belle at ang mga posibilidad na kayang gawin ni Noel Villarama dito.

Nagsasalita pa ito ng i-cut nya ito. "Can you just send the details to my secretary's email. As you can see I can't attend to that. I will request one of our architect to set a meeting with you if you really want my firm to handle that project." dire-diretsong nasabi na lang ni Lorenz. Gusto pa sana nyang idagdag na he will never transact with him, but he's being professional right now.

"Ah I see, I'm sorry to bother you. If that's the case, I'll instruct my secretary to send an email to your office. We will be waiting for the schedule of the meeting."

"Yes, thank you." before pa man din makapagpaalam ito sa kabilang linya ay agad na nyang inend ang call na iyon.

Pinuntahan agad ni Lorenz si Belle pagkatapos ng tawag na iyon.

Nagtaka pa si Belle dahil madilim na ang ekspresyon ng mukha ni Lorenz ng bumalik.

"Are you okay?" Natanong nya dito ng makalapit ito sa kanya.

"It's late, we should go back to the villa." iyon lang ang sinabi nito before grabbing her hands and lead the way pabalik.
