Hey guys! Sorry it's taken so long, I have been so busy and wanted to get this chapter right the way I imagined it.

Make sure to read the short authors note at the end ☺️

Anchor

Macs pov

Mason and I pulled up to the house where the party was being held. The host was someone that I had met that summer. Her name was Paige and she would come to the library to check out books about two or three times a week and we had become close friends. She had heard the news of mason and I's hospital experience and offered to host the welcome back party for us.

I felt very self-conscious as we walked up the driveway hand in hand. Everyone there was going to be looking at us, and we haven't exactly announced our engagement yet.

I felt mason squeeze my hand in reassurance as he saw the worried look on my face. He was so good at that. I was always the one under stress or going crazy about something, and he's always there to calm me down and keep me grounded.

In the sea of life, he is my anchor.

I smiled up at him and walked into the giant house with him slowly trailing behind me.

There were so many people inside! I couldn't believe all do these people would actually show up. Paige wove through the crowd to hug mason and I and to tell us where everything was.

"Thank you so much Paige, this is amazing. We really appreciate it." Mason said as he hugged her.

I loved the fact that he had never actually met her in person, but was so nice and polite to a complete stranger.

"Of course! Now go enjoy yourselves!"

We then walked around and greeted our friends and family as we went. Everything was in perfect place in this neatly decorated home. Paige had spared no details when decorating. There were white candles all around and pastel pink roses in crystal vases everywhere. It was a little on the fancy side, so I was glad I dressed up a bit. My sides were getting a burning sensation every now and then from walking around more than I have been due to my injuries, but beside that, things were going well. I then excused myself to go grab a drink from the backyard.
Mason seemed a little apprehensive of letting me go, but I gave his hand a reassuring squeeze as I left him to listen to the boring story Sophie was in the middle of telling. I hadn't been listening at all, I've just learned to tune her out. But mason however looked like he was in actual pain listening to her babble on. I giggled and walked towards the back of the house.

I went over to the cooler and grabbed myself a water since it was so hot, when I spotted something in the corner of my eye, someone.

I turned around and saw him leaning against the door blocking the entrance. He was smirking at me and I wanted to go over there and wipe that look off his face.

"What the hell are you doing here Ryder?" I did my best to act tough, even if I was shaking with fear.

"Wow, glad to see you're still feisty as ever."

"Go away. This is a party for our friends and family, and you are not welcome here!" I shouted at the man who had caused Mason and I so much pain.

"I just came to tell you that even though you look extremely hot tonight, if you ever turn me in to the cops again, I'll rip-"

"You better step away from her right now." A voice growled behind Ryder.

He started laughing at mason and turned around to say something, but he surprised him by punching him in the face.

"I think you need to leave, and never come back. You understand?" His voice was hardly
recognizable as it was very low and raspy and filled with anger.

He chuckled and walked out of the exit, thank God.
I ran into his arms and hugged him tight.

"Thank you." I could feel myself tear up and he pulled away to look down into my eyes. "Any time. Every time."

The rest of the party was a lot of fun. We were catching up with all of our friends and family and just relaxing.

Masons family arrived and we pulled them out to the patio to tell them the news.

"Mama, dad, as you know, I love Mac so so much. She makes me so happy, and has all of the qualities I'm looking for. She makes me smile, she makes me laugh all the time, and she brings out the best in me. That's why I'm going to marry her."

We were standing there, hand in hand as the Blakes sat there in their chairs. They looked a little startled, but not mad like id feared.

"Well, if you're sure about this, I couldn't think of a better girl for you than Mac." Theresa said as she teared up a little and smiled.

"Yes, I agree. Welcome to the family sweetie." David said.

Rachel practically flew through the sliding glass door and ran to us when she overheard this. She ran over to hug us and I started to cry of happiness as we all embraced each other in a group hug. This was my family. This is where I belong.

I was so exhausted after tonight, and so glad that I told masons family about our engagement. I didn't like hiding things from them and it made me feel at ease that it was out in the open.

I quickly changed into some shorts and an old t shirt and brushed my teeth to climb into bed. I put my ring into my little ring box next to my bed and climbed under he covers.

Mason wrapped his arms around me and pulled me close.
He was talking to me and I could barely function I was so tired.

"Babe, I need to sleep I can't stay up any longer." I groaned and rolled over so my back was facing him. He draped an arm around me and nuzzled his head in the crook of my neck.

"Good night beautiful. Love you." He whispered as I drifted off into unconsciousness.
