Derry Maine, one of the most unknown places in all of the United States of America. The world maybe.

Derry was particularly known as Bangor to some but to Jay, Derry was the only thing she'd become apart of. She remembered writing Derry ME on almost everything, from postcards to packages, everything.

Spring in Derry was the most beautiful season to Jay. The poppies were her favorite, the red from their petals complementing the green grass they grew on drew your eyes to them.

Winter in Maine is the harshest season of them all, living in the north you could expect two to three feet of snow. Even more some years.

Jay had spent her spring break walking across the Bangor Bridge over to the shops looking inside the windows at the leather jackets and hair dye. Jay's favorite sunday activity was stopping outside the Bangor sex shop and watching the frisky couples walk out with sex furniture and sometimes freaks walking out with three or four DVD's. It made her burst out in laughter looking at what people come out with.

But spring break was over and the only thing that reminded Jay of the week away from school were the red tips of her hair she had dyed the night before flapping in the wind as she walked to school. Pushing her glasses up her nose, Jay watched as cars maneuvered their way down the street, most likely on their way to work or school.

The only thing stopping Jay from getting her license was her dad. Jay's dad was a single working man with a 'rebellious' teenage daughter and two cats. Her dad was not overprotective, just crazy.

Evidence? How about when Jay wrote herself sick 49 times by forging her father's signature in ninth grade. She was called into the office, her dad waiting for her. She knew he didn't care by the way he was sitting. Jay was the most observant person she knew and she always knew that her dad did not give a single fuck about anything she did.

"Mr--"

"Call me Billie."

Jay laughed obnoxiously, "That's not your name." Dexter was his name. Jay watched her dad's mouth turn up into a smile and turn to her. "Shh go along with it!"

The two settled into their seats waiting for the Superintendent to speak. "Billie... Jay has been feeling sick I've heard lately."

Dexter slouched in his seat crossing his left leg over his right, digging into his pocket and pulling out a dirtied cigarette, "Yeah so what if she has. Why do I give a fuck? What if it's one of those period things."

"For forty nine days?" The superintendent cocked an eyebrow, rearranging the order of his pens on his desk. Dexter placed the cigarette on the edge of lip, flipping open his lighter and lighting the cigarette.

The familiar smell of burning tobacco and smoke seeped into Jay's nostrils and also into the superintendent's setting off an alarm. "Mr. Sloan, you can't smoke in here. It's a cigarette free campus."

"Tell that to the kids smoking out back. You should those suckers inhale those things, like goddamn vacuums." Dexter puffed out a gray cloud, inspecting his cigarette.

"Mr. Sloan if you don't put out that cigarette I'm going to have to ask you to leave." The superintendent hissed. His head lowered, the shiny spot on his bald head becoming more visible.

"Why do I care if she was out for forty nine days? Maybe she was going through some stuff and education was only making it worse. Oh yeah, the dipshits in this district wouldn't have done anything about it anyways." Jay glanced towards him. She had only spoken to her dad about school affecting her mental health twice so him mentioning it was a surprise.

"Mr. Sloan, your daughter has not attended school in a number of days which is treason which could lead to your arrest now please put out the cigarette or we'll have to escort you off of the campus."
