The bell finally rang, dismissing the students one by one as they practically ran out the doors. Jay slowly turned into the hallway when she felt a hand on her shoulder.

"Mrs. Sloan."

Jay turned towards the door as she headed out, her bag and books in hand. It was Mr. Zalesky, from English.

"Mr. Zalesky." Jay greeted him as she faked a smile. Zalesky was heavy set man, around two hundred pounds or so with a head full of ash brown hair and round rimmed glasses.

"I'm assuming you'll be joining me for detention this afternoon?" He asked as he peered over his glasses to Jay.

Jay rolled her eyes. "Yes sir." She forced a smile.

Zalesky grinned creepily as he turned and strutted down the hall to his class. Jay sneered as she walked towards her locker, quickly turning the dial and pushing open her locker.

"Are you the new school badass or something? Detention on a Friday night." Jo's voice rang out behind Jay.

"Consider me the Joan of Arche of Derry Public High School." Jay smirked as she slammed her locker and turned to the boy.

He leaned against the locker next to her as he quickly shuffled through his bag. "Well," Jo started, "I know that you don't have a ride so I'll make sure to wait for you outside after detention."

"Awe, you'd do that for me Jo?" Jay blushed and grinned. Jo squinted as his cheeks darkened and nodded.

As the hallways finally started to empty Jay sighed as she slung her bag over her shoulder. "Well, I guess I have to get to one hell of a detention. Hopefully, Greta isn't in there waiting to kick my ass."

Jo nodded slowly as he pushed off the locker. "Just know for the record, you have about twelve inches on her I think you'll be fine." He chuckled.

Jay chuckled with him as she wrapped her arm around his neck. "Yeah but I stopped fighting little girls in middle school- I'll see you after school." Jay sighed, "Love ya."

"Love you." Jo rubbed her back reassuringly as the two separated and parted ways. Jay quickly peddled to detention hoping for the worst of the worst.

Baddest of the baddest.

Meanest of the meanest.

But that wasn't the case at all.

"Ah, Miss Sloan. Good to have you finally join us." Mr. Zalesky chimed as Jay entered the class room. Jay shifted her eyes from Zalesky to the rest of the class, which consisted of three people.

A freshman sitting on one of the desks to the left of the class. A sophomore sitting in the back of the class. And last but not least, Patrick Hockstetter, front and center.

Jay glanced to Patrick as a wide grin quickly spread across his face. His eyes trailed along her body seductively but Jay's eyes stated other wise as she glared in his direction.

Jay threw her stuff onto the table towards the right side of the classroom, the more isolated side of the room.

As soon as Jay slid into her seat, Patrick was already in the seat behind her. "So you here because of that little scene this morning?" Patrick whispered as he balanced his elbows
on the desk.

Jay rolled her eyes, "Yup."

Patrick let out a chuckle as he gazed out the window into the, now emptied, court yard. "Heard Greta got suspended. One week suspension-."

"Mr. Hockstetter."

Jay shot her eyes towards the front of the room to Zalesky grading papers. "I would rather not have to hear your little conversations with Ms. Sloan."
