"Would you like your receipt m'am?" The cashier asked.

"No thank you." Jay responded as she grabbed her bag off of the counter and made her way outside the store.

She listened as the bell above the door let out a tiny ring and the air grew colder outside. Jay checked her wristwatch quickly as she wondered where her father could be.

"8:45", her watch read. He would be in here in fifteen minutes and she could wait in the cold or she could walk, save the time and gas.

Jay sighed as she slowly walked down the side walk of the plaza, looking into the windows of the shops next to her.

She had always wondered what it would be like to see her face on the cover of a magazine. People screaming your name and asking for autographs. It was a foreign thought to her but she was fond of it.

"What're you doin' out here all alone."

Jay jumped at the sound of the voice but seemed to recognize it easily but she couldn't. She turned her head in the direction of the coarse voice and peered through the darkness.

"I-I was just shopping." Jay mustered a smile. The man leaning against the brick wall kicked his boot in the dirt and with a flick of his hat he was looking right at Jay.

His skin was light with tanned spots scattered along his arms. His hair was a dark ebony color that shone through the street lamp lighting Jay's face. His face was untraditional but handsome and his stature was above average.

He wore a blue flannel, a tan hat, denim jeans and some boots. He looked like he had just walked right out of the south.

"I'm sorry- but do I know you?" Jay asked as she glanced down the street to see if he had parked a car or was with someone. Nothing. It's like he appeared out of thin air.

"You don't but I want to know you." He smirked as he brought a cigarette to his lips. Jay scoffed softly as she rustled through her bag, "You're just saying that."

Jay avoided eye contact completely as it dawned on her how old this man really is. He looked like he had the physique of a twenty year old but his voice and his eyes were old and aged.

"Well," The man coughed as he flicked the cigarette to the ground, sauntering towards Jay, "a pretty girl like you deserves to be talked to."

Jay feel her arms erupt in goosebumps as the cowboy looking man placed his finger under Jay's chin, titling her head upwards towards his eyes.

Being almost five eleven, height wasn't a huge intimidation with Jay, but in this case, she was frozen in fear.

"Now, tell me. What in god's name is a pretty girl like you doin' out 'ere without no boyfriend to protect you?"

Jay stumbled back but her back pressed against the warm brick wall. "I-I already told you I was just shopping."

"What did you get.." The man smirked creepily as he placed his hand on the wall, physically trapping the frail girl between him and the wall.

"None of your business." Jay murmured as she clutched her bag to her chest. The man peered into the bag and back to Jay. "Some pretty lingerie for your boyfriend huh."

"I don't have-"

"Yeah that's me you prick."

Jay glanced past the man standing in front of her to the slightly smaller one behind him. It was Pat.

"Patrick." Jay whispered to herself. The man glanced back to Jay with a disgusted look on her face, "This is your boyfriend?"

Before Jay could open her mouth Patrick quickly answered with a 'yup'.

"Common babe, I gotta see what you bought before it gets too dark." Patrick suggested as he opened his arm.

Jay stepped past the man and quickly fell below his arm. Her shoulders hunched and her arms clenched, Jay held herself close to Patrick as they started down the sidewalk.

Patrick glanced down to her as his arm snaked around her waist, his finger twitching with her belt loop.

The two slowly walked down the alleyway to the main street where there would be more people and street lights.

"Don't think this is the last time, missy! I'll find you!" The hick shouted as his mouth curved into a smirk.

Jay glanced over her shoulder as her eyes narrowed and glared.

The two rounded the corner and were quickly out of sight as Jay pushed herself away from Hockstetter swiftly.

"Why the fuck did you do that." Jay huffed. Patrick scrunched his nose in disgust and scoffed, "What the fuck- I saved you from that child predator you should be kissing my ass right now."

"I didn't need your fucking help Patrick!" Jay exclaimed walking down the dimly lit sidewalk.

Patrick exhaled sharply before rushing towards Jay quickly, cutting in front of her.

Shifting her eyes from the sidewalk to Hockstetter's hand gripping her wrist. "What'd you buy huh, something sexy?" Patrick asked as he poked at the bag.

Jay scoffed as she pushed past him, "Nothing for you to see that's for fucking sure."

"Oh common can I at least see what you bought?" Patrick exclaimed as he snatched the bag from Jay.

"Patrick!" Jay shouted as she slapped his arm. "Give it back!"

"Common you gotta come get it!" Patrick laughed as he held the bag above Jay, dangling it over her head.

"Stop, I have to get home!" Jay whined as she jumped for the bag.

"Fine okay! Ow! Can you at least let me walk you home?" Patrick chuckled as he handed Jay the teal bag.

Jay grabbed the bag, clutching it to her chest as she glared at Patrick. It was only down and across the block from where they were.

"I swear to god, if you even try anything I'll punch you in the teeth." Jay snarled as she turned down the street.

Patrick smirked as he walked next to Jay, glancing at her every other second.

"Are you gay or something?" Patrick blurted. Jay remained stone faced, "No- are you?"

"What the fuck no. If I was gay would I try to be getting with you twenty four seven?" Patrick defended.

"Mm I don't know, you and Henry seem pretty close." Jay suggested.

"What is that your little gay fantasy, me and Henry?" Patrick chuckled as his feet padded against the concrete.

Jay looked to Patrick as the two closed in towards Jay's house as she laughed. "Yeah, I just get so turned on thinking about you and Henry."

"What else do you get turned on about." Patrick winked. Jay rolled her eyes as she walked up the driveway to her house.

"None of your fucking business, Hockstetter." Jay raised her eyebrows and sinched her lips together.

Patrick chuckled, stopping in his tracks, "I think I know what gets you off."

Jay slowly turned around, amused at his reply, "What do you think 'gets me off'? Tell me."

Patrick focused his eyes on the concrete as he twiddled with his tongue along his teeth. "I think seeing me get off on you struggling is a big turn on for you. You being vulnerable, probably because you've never been able to be vulnerable in your life so when you are with me, it's an out of body experience."

What the fuck.

"You could not be more wrong- I don't even really know what vulnerable means in my situation, I've been vulnerable my entire life." Jay sputtered as she spat out the excuse.

Still confused and shocked by his answer Jay quickly hopped up the steps of her porch, unlocking the door before turning over her shoulder one last time.

"You know more than you think."
