Chapter 19: Shake Hands

Y/n's POV

I can't believe I live here.

I might just die here.

I stare at the boys surrounding me with wonder and fear. How could they handle all the chaos that happened in Hawkins without a) losing their sanity, b) not telling or making their parents suspicious and c) knowing how to handle themselves and the situation while staying rational? If I were them, I probably would have left town and the country while I'm at it...

" Ok, that's pretty much all we know. BUT, you cannot discuss this with anyone besides this group. A lot of the people in this town don't know and wouldn't understand what's going on. So, it's kinda our job to keep it on the down low so we don't cause panic all over." Lucas stated seriously.

"Yeah, he's right. It's our pact." Dustin smiled at me and reached his hand out in front of me.

I smiled back and took his hand to shake it.

Our hands met and I swear my heart is racing.

You know, I always thought it was so cheesy when those characters in movies were swooning over someone saying they felt 'sparks when they touched' but damn am I feeling a wave of fire at Dustin's touch.

He must have felt it too because as soon as we looked in each other's eyes while we shook hands, we both pulled our hands away and looked in opposite directions.

I just so happened to look at Mike who discreetly smirked at me as he raised his eyebrow. My eyes flickered down to the ground and I couldn't help but smile just a tiny bit.

Great. I just HAD to go and have feelings. How inconvenient. He's gonna tease me about this isn't he...

I looked back up to see the rest of the guys with their hands out.

"What? Are you gonna leave us all hanging? Or do you only shake hands with good ole' Dusty over here?"

Yup. The teasing has already begun but what caught me off guard was that it came from Lucas. Not Mike. Lucas. What am I getting myself into with all these guys around...?

"Just for you saying that, I'm not so sure I want to shake hands with you." I retorted.

"Oh come on, y/n." Lucas whined.

I shook Will and Mike's hand and stared at Lucas pretending to think it over. I think Lucas is a bit...on edge? I smirk at him and finally shake his hand and saw relief in his eyes as I noticed him let out a slight sigh.

Hmm, who would have guessed I had some effect over these guys.

"Alright, so what now?" I ask.

"Well y/n, you see, that's the fun part." Lucas says looking between the other boys as they all shared mischievous looks.

"Oh boy." Why do I feel nervous now?

"It's time to give you an official welcome to the party."
