A/N: In honor of the release date for season 3, here's the release of a new chapter!

Y/n's POV

I talked with El for a little while but conversation easily hit dead ends as she didn't seem to know a whole lot of vocab. Maybe if I visit in the future I could help her out with that…

“Oh shoot! El it's almost 8 am my mom's gonna notice I'm gone! I have to get home or more than just my back will have problems.”

“Oh.”

“I'm sorry El, I'll try to figure something out, ok?”

“Ok.” She looked down as she fiddled with her fingers.

I felt bad for leaving so soon but if I don't find a way back home my mom won't let me leave the house till I'm an adult. If that happens, I can kiss any chance of getting to know El and what Brenner may have done to me goodbye. I opened the door and I stepped on the porch when I realized something.

Shit.

I'm in the middle of the forest, in God knows where and I have to get home before my mom notices.

I turned around and walked back in the cabin and looked at El with what I can only assume was a dorky, puzzled expression. She tilted her head and furrowed her eyebrows.

“I have a slight problem. I have no idea where the hell I am and how to get back.”

“Powers.”

“For the last time I don't have powers! And if I do I certainly don't know how to use them.”

“Sit, eyes closed.”

She motioned for me to sit on the floor facing her so I closed the door and took my place with her on the creaky floorboards. I stared at her, confused as to what she was having me do.

“Close your eyes.”

“Right, sorry.” I closed my eyes and waited for her to tell me what to do.

“Think of what you want.”

“Come on El not this aga-”

“Think of what you want.” She said more sternly this time.

I imagined myself walking out the door and seeing my house. But something didn't feel right. It didn't feel the same as when I was imagining this very cabin.

“I don't think it's working El” I said, as my frustration increasingly grew.

“Focus.”

I tried it again but it still wasn't working. I was almost focused but I couldn't shake this gut feeling that something or someone didn't want me to use my so-called “powers”.

I opened my eyes and was about to tell El I couldn't do it when I looked over her shoulder and saw a walkie-talkie. An idea popped in my head.

“El, wait. If I radio the guys I can have them meet me somewhere to take me home!”

The only problem? I still didn't know where exactly I was in Hawkins.

“You can try-”

“I'm not sure it'll work but may as well give it a try. But there's one thing, I can't say I'm with you or I know where you are otherwise the Hopper dude won't let me see you anymore, understand?”

“Yeah,” She said with a sigh.

“Ok here we go,” I changed the frequency and channels to match what Dustin set my walkie-talkie back home to. “Dustin? Anyone? It's y/n, come in? Over.”

The only reply I got was static. So I repeated my message. Nothing. I sighed about to set the walkie-talkie back when I heard a voice.

“Y/n? It's Mike. Over.”

I heard El gasp.

“Mike! Oh are we glad to hear your voice.”

We? Y/n, where are you? Is everything ok?”

I looked at El, shoot I already slipped up.

“Er sorry, I meant I. I'm borrowing some random guys walkie right now because apparently I had a sleepwalking episode and I'm at the edge of a forest.” I winced wondering if he'd buy my story and realize I emphasized episode.

“Oh shoot, another episode . Ok well, do you know where you are?”

“Ha, uh that's funny. I'm new so I don't know where anything is around here yet…”

“Shit, I didn't think about that.”

“Yeah-” El took my finger off the button on the walkie.

“Hopper says were east from houses.”

“Ok that helps, thanks El!” I pushed the walkie button down again to tell Mike.

“Hey Mike, I'm pretty sure I'm east of the neighborhood. If I find the edge of the forest and head West a bit wanna meet there? I'm definitely lost and it'll help a lot.”

“Sure, yea i'll meet you in the area in a few. Over.”

I released the button and gave El a thumbs up.

“Whew, alright. I can get back home before my mom notices.” I sighed in relief.

I looked at El and she forced a smile.

“You miss him, don't you?”

She nodded her head and looked down.

“If you want I can give him something from you if you want me to?”

Her eyes lit up a bit and she looked at me. She smiled and turned around, walking to what I assumed was her room. She came back with a shirt and handed it to me. It was a yellow t-shirt that was rather large for her build. I gently took it and she gave me a sad smile.

“I'll make sure he gets it.”

“Thank you-” she paused, “friend.”

We shared a smile and I turned, opened the door and closed it behind me. I walked down the stairs of the porch and started to make my way west.

A/N: Whew! It's been a hot minute, sorry for taking forever to upload but I've got some free time AND I actually know where I kinda wanna go with the story so hopefully I'll post a little more often ahah
