Chapter 2: Distracted

Dustin's POV

I'll admit I was distracted during our campaign. I kept thinking about the new family across from my house and found myself making scenarios that the youngest girl could become my new, and only, girlfriend. Uhh as in a girl...that's a friend...

Or maybe she could become my girlfriend...Wait. What?!

I haven't even seen this girl face to face! I've only seen her backside, from a distance might I add, and now she's my fake girlfriend? Geez, smooth one Dustin. Real nice...

"Hello-? Dustin-?"

"DUSTIN!"

I jerked my head up from where it rested on my hand, propped up by my elbow, and pushed my thoughts away as the guys yelled for my attention from all sides of the table in Mike's basement.

"Uh...yea?"

"It's your turn dude." Mike announced.

I was about to make my move but Will interrupted me telling me to wait and Lucas leaned across the table on his elbows with his hands curled up under his chin, smirked at me and said, "Spill the tea man."

I snickered at his goofy remark, secretly hoping it would distract away from the grin I'm almost certain I was wearing with the thought of the new girl. I then proceeded to tell the guys about my new neighbors. I hesitated before adding in the idea that maybe the girl around our age could join the party if she seemed like a good fit.

"I don't know man." Lucas replied

"I guess we'll have to see what she's like first." Will said and I noticed there was a trace of hope in his voice which made me grin my goofy toothless grin.

Mike however just sat slumped in his chair glaring at the game board while twisting a game pawn in his hand. He seemed to have a look of disgust on his face, or maybe it was sorrow. I'm not really sure, but I certainly will not give up hope. 

A/N: I'm sure you realized this chapter was a lot shorter but I needed it to fill in as you and Dustin will meet in the next one! I also realize that I need to start doing multiple characters view points so bear with me as I try to figure out how to fit that in (hopefully it will transition smoothly :) )
