Chapter 12: Waiting

Dustin's POV

Will and I were riding off to Hawkins Hospital which happened to be connected to Hawkins Lab. Great-. I hope we don't run into any trouble here and I hope Will is going to be alright since he hasn't had the best experiences at this hellhole.

"Dustin? Are you sure we're going the right way? Why are we headed towards the lab?"

"Yes, I'm sure and trust me, it's not what I'm sure is going through your head."

"Don't tell me y/n is a test subject like El!"

"See, it's not like that."

"Okay..."

We parked our bikes along the front of the building and walked through the glass door into the hospital portion of the building. I lead the way to the desk in the lobby and leaned my elbows on it. The receptionist finished typing on her computer, and slipped her glasses off which rested on her chest as they were attached to some sort of necklace.

She glanced up to us and said, "Name."

"Oh, uh like my name or who I'm seeing?"

After saying this I earned a glare from her and she simply repeated herself.

"Name."

"Dustin Henderson and Will Byers? Here to see y/n y/l/n."

"Her chart shows no visitors until 9am"

"Ok, I guess we'll wait here then."

I turned on my heels and walked to sit down in a chair against the wall. I heard the receptionist grunt as Will and I walked away. I wonder what she's got stuck up her-

"Dustin what time is it?"

"Oh uh, 8:40."

Looks like we'll be waiting for 20 more minutes...

I dozed off sitting in the chair because I was exhausted with trying to figure out how I felt about seeing y/n. I was kinda nervous because she'll probably be in pain but I'll be relieved to see her again.

Will's POV

I hate waiting. I've learned to be patient with the whole incident last year but it doesn't mean I like it. I was about to try talking to Dustin to get some answers out of him but, as I shifted to face him I noticed his expression was soft. Eyes closed and slightly smiling.

-time skip-

"Dustin wake up!" I whisper shouted.

"Huh?"

"It's 9 o'clock we can go see y/n now."

"Oh, yes! Let's hurry." I noticed him smile with anticipation as he hopped out of his chair and rushed over to the desk. I didn't hear the conversation fully but I knew what he was asking about. As I got up from my chair I noticed Dustin had left behind a bag. I shrugged and grabbed it and then joined him at the desk.

"Thank you ma'am!"

She grunted a deep 'welcome' and we made our way down the hallway.

"Look for room 353 Will."

"Here it is."

"Just a quick heads up, y/n might be in...some pain, ok?"

I nod my head, why am I suddenly nervous to see her?

Dustin's POV

I gulped and placed my hand in a fist. I knocked gently on the door and heard a voice say "come in!" So my hand shifted to the knob and twisted it. I took a few steps in the room with Will right behind me.

"Oh, hi Dustin! How lovely of you to visit y/n!"

" Hi Mrs. y/l/n. Will and I just wanted to check in and maybe cheer her up."

"Go right ahead."

I smiled at y/n's mom and proceeded to walk up to y/n's side. I noticed her eyes were closed yet she still looked exhausted. She was slightly pale compared to normal and her body looked frail as she laid in the white hospital bed. As I look at her, she starts to breathe a bit heavier and I see her eyebrows wrinkle together.

The heavy breathing is soon replaced with y/n's voice but it's softer than normal and slightly raspy. "Mom- I can't get comfortable. I have this shooting pain and it makes me jerk which hurts like heck."

"Ok sweetie I'll get someone to come help you. In the meantime, Dustin and Will are here for you."

I saw her carefully move her head to glance over to where we're standing and the sad, pained expression lifts off her face as she smiles at us.

"Hey guys, I'm really glad to see you."

"We're happy to see you too y/n." Will and I say at the same time.

She giggled a little but her expression immediately turned sour as she squeezed her eyes tight and I heard a small wail of pain escape her lips.

Gosh this is hard to see her in so much pain. Thankfully y/n's mom was just now entering the room with someone familiar looking trailing behind. I guess Will, y/n and I sensed the same thing...

Because the voice that filled the air brought a chill to all of us.

A/N: Sorry for only doing one update this weekend, had a harder time thinking of how I wanted to write it. Hope everyone has a great week. :)

Would you prefer for me to keep doing the pictures at the top or for me to link some of the songs I like? The songs I'm thinking about don't really match the story is the thing...but I'm not sure. :)
