So...this is my favorite song at the moment and it actually kinda relates to the chapter! Ya. That's it, enjoy!
Dustin's POV
The next four days were pretty routine. Wake up, ride to the hospital to visit y/n, chill around the house and hang out with some of the guys. They always asked me if y/n was coming or why she seems to have just disappeared out of their lives.
They didn't know the reason she wasn't hanging out and I wasn't the one going to tell them.
But today was different, y/n would be going home for the first time in 5 days and I wanted it to be perfect. I asked for permission to throw y/n a "You're home surprise" for just the two of us. Mrs. y/l/n happily obliged and told me Belle would be home to let me in.
I glanced at the clock it read 6:15 pm. Fifteen minutes until y/n gets home! Why am I so nervous?
Y/n POV
Finally I'm free, god I couldn't bare to spend another minute in that place!
The nurses took great care in gently placing me in the passenger seat of the car and buckled my seatbelt. They wished me well and we were on our way home.
Home.
Hawkins is my new home.
Our car pulled into the slanted driveway and my mom commanded me to stay inside until she could come around to help me.
I sighed and nodded my head.
I just want to get up and do something. I've been so trapped for days, I don't want to be babied every second of the day. Ugh, I hate to admit it, but I guess I do need the help...
My mom placed her hands under my elbows and delicately lifted as I pushed myself up and stood on my feet.
I closed my eyes, smiling at the breeze as it gently washed over my face and played with my hair. I heard birds chirping in the next door neighbor's tree and the world felt at peace. The sun stretched its rays outward releasing the final hour of warmth before it would set and bring darkness with it. I felt the warmth and the hairs on my arms stood up as I took in the sensation of it all.
This is home.
My mom led me in the house and carefully up the stairs. We shared a grin as I tackled the first challenge after my surgery, getting home and up the stairs without pain. I walked to my room, she gave me a goofy grin and said to me, "Welcome home and have some fun. He's a sweet boy."
"What are you talking about?"
"You'll see, just open the door."
I gave her a glance before setting my hand on the doorknob and turning it. I gasped.
"Hey y/n, welcome home."
"Oh my- did you do all this Dustin?"
"I had a bit of help." He replied scratching the back of his neck and smiling nervously.
"I- Wow- I love this!"
I glanced around my room. There were white string lights hanging loosely across the ceiling above a blanket spread out on my window seat where Dustin sat. Next to him were tons of pillows and a tray. A picnic basket rested at his feet on the floor.
"I was gonna do the picnic on the floor but figured it'd be easier on your back to sit in the window with pillows."
"That's so thoughtful Dustin! This is amazing!"
"Not as much as you..." he said quietly and blushed the second he realized he said that out loud.
"You're so cute Dustin." Now it was my turn to blush.
"Oh- uh- heh uh thanks."
I giggled at his reaction and carefully sat next to him.
"So what's for dinner?"
"Oh- uhm, I hope you like eggos."
I laughed at his comment and replied, "Yes, I don't mind having eggos. Better than hospital food, that's for sure."
He smiled at me and we began to eat and talk. I noticed the sun setting and tapped his shoulder before pointing out my window. We sat there watching the sky fade from blue to vibrant orange and yellow colors. They almost seemed to intensify before fading to dark.
We sat there for hours talking about anything and everything. I noticed his eyes would light up the room when he spoke of something he loved and how he would barely move when I had something to say as if he was giving me his complete attention.
The room was bright from the warm glow of the lights but that didn't stop my eyes from getting heavy. I never want this moment to end but I know that even though it has to, we can do it all over again.
That's it. I want to spend my time with Dustin. I didn't think I felt this strong towards him but I can see it now and I know for sure the pain meds aren't clouding my judgement on this one. He visited me everyday, made sure I was ok and now he's brought me pure happiness. He eases the pain.
Dustin must have noticed how tired I had gotten because he pulled my comforter back on my bed and helped me into bed. My eyes started to flutter and I heard Dustin whisper.
"Goodnight, sunshine"
I felt the warmth of his lips momentarily lingering on my forehead. I heard the door close behind him and I melted a little inside. My eyes finally closed and sent me to sleep.
A/N: I finally did it! You guys finally get to see some Dustin x Reader action! Hope you enjoy :)
