Chapter 19

Nate turned into a cemetery and I could tell he was hurting inside... I wish I could heal the pain that the death of Riley impacted onto him. I just want to heal all the pain he's going through. I saw multiple cars and I saw Marcy's shiny black Mercedes Benz and I looked at Nathan wide-eyed.

"Nate! I can't be here! They'll get more upset and I-" I started to say but Nate held my hand and looked me dead in the eye.

"Shelby, they asked me to bring you here. So please don't freak out...," Nate said and I nodded and stayed quiet as he parked.

We got out and he grabbed the flowers from the back seat and wrapped one arm around my waist for reassurance. I felt so protected in his arms and I saw the whole family even Nicole, Bailey, Mackenzie, and Samantha. Everyone noticed us and Marcy walked over to me and hugged me and said, "thank you for coming with him."

"Thank you for inviting me," I said and she grabbed my arm and lead me over to the grave.

Daughter, sister, cousin, niece, friend.

Nathan set the flowers down and I grabbed his hand and he sighed.

"Hi Riles, it's Nate. We miss you a lot and I just wanted to introduce you to Shelby. She's very important to me and she reminds me of you. If you were here you two would be best friends, I already know it. I miss you so much and I think of you everyday," Nathan said and looked down at the grass not able to say anymore.

"Hi Riley, I'm Nicole, Eric's girlfriend. I've heard so much about you and I wish I got to meet you. Your brothers talk very highly of you and I really wish I got the honor of meeting you. I'll take good care of Eric for you," Nicole said and Nathan wrapped an arm around me.

"Hi baby, I miss you so much... Look at all these people that have come to visit you today. We're doing fine so don't you worry but there will always be a hole here that no one can fill. I love you so much, Riles," Marcy said and then put her face into Matt's chest as tears streamed down her face.

More people started saying what they wanted to and I felt like it was my time too.

"Hi Riley... I wish I got the opportunity to meet you. Nathan and your whole family talks highly of you and I wish I lived my life as positively as you did. Thank you for influencing his life so much to the person he has become today. I'll look after him for you," I said and everyone smiled around me.

Nathan hugged me and I kissed his cheek and embraced him with all my heart.

I drove Nathan's car to his house because he looked exhausted and shaken up. We arrived and he sighed as I got out to help him out.

"How are you going to get home?" Nate asked me and I gave him a tight smile.

"Nathan, don't worry about me. Go inside and I'll text you when I get home," I said and he grabbed my hand and pulled me into an embrace.

"Shelbs, thank you for today. Will you please come inside with me though? Just for like 10 minutes?" Nate said not letting me go.

"Yeah, I'll come inside for a little bit," I said and grabbed his hand and went inside with him.

We went up to his room and he took off his shoes and started to change so I sat down at his desk and faced the wall cause I was bright red.

"You can turn around now," Nate said and I turned around but he was shirtless and I quickly turned back around and he laughed.

"Nate!" I cried out and he grabbed my arm and made me fall on the bed with him and I was all tangled up in his arms.

"You should put on a shirt," I whispered and he shook his head.

"I'm good, I'm actually very comfortable right now."

"What if your mom walks in or anyone in your family?" I asked as I tried to sit up but he put his leg around me and I was stuck.

"You're cute when your frazzled," Nate said and kissed my cheek and I sighed then turned to him.

"You know what?"

"What?"

"I need to go home now," I said as I tried to get off of his bed but I was stuck...

"Nathannn," I whined.

"Oh come on Shelbs, why do you have to leave?" Nathan whined and I sighed.

"Cause I have to go watch Cole so my sister and her husband can go out and get some air," I said and he sighed.

"Fine, but if I get a kiss then I'll let you leave," Nate said and I sighed.

I whacked his forehead and as he was crying out in pain I escaped from his legs and ran to his car with his keys.

"Shelby! You don't even know how to drive stick!" Nate yelled after me as I raced to the car. I got in the passengers seat and put they key in as Nathan busted through the garage door without a shirt. I started laughing at him and he rolled his eyes as he grabbed a shirt from the backseat.

"Why do you do this to me, Shelby?"

"Cause I like messing with you, Nathan," I said with a laugh and he held my hand as he drove me home.
