Aurie's POV
The four of us piled up into the matt black Mercedes Benz, with Dallas driving, Maddie sitting in the front since she, like always, called shotgun before all of us while Demi and I sat in the back.
We blared on the radio and sang along to all the songs that played. When the four of us were together, we would go crazy and that's exactly how I loved it.
We reached the mall in 40 minutes and after parking the car, all rushed towards Forever 21.
I grabbed a shopping bag, as Demi, Maddie and Dallas did the same and started to look through the various tops.
My eyes landed on a cute full-sleeved black and white striped crop top. I realized that wearing a crop top meant showing a bit off my stomach, and I was definitely not comfortable with that. I took it out of its hanger and stared at it, contemplating whether or not to buy it.
Suddenly from behind, I heard Demi.
"That's cute Ree! You should buy that, it'll look great on you." she said and stood in front of me.
It won't.
I clenched my jaw, mad at my demons for picking the worst possible timings.
Demi suddenly grabbed the shirt out of my hold and put it into the black bag that was slinging on her arms.
"Don't think too much about it baby girl. If you like it, you buy it." she said to me, a small smile playing on her lips.
We shopped for some more time and soon we were walking out of Forever 21 with 2 huge bags in each of our hands, filled with clothes.
"Let's grab some dinner and head home, yeah?" Dallas suggested.
Fuck!
Demi and Maddie nodded in agreement and I hesitantly nodded along.
"Alright, what do you want?" Dallas asked us as we sat down on a table in a French restaurant called, 'Délicieux'.
I saw how all three of them scanned through their menus. I pretended to scan through the menu too and then set it down.
"I'm not that hungry. You guys can order your food." I said.
Dallas, Maddie and Demi looked up at me with confused expressions, but Demi decided to speak up.
"Ree, you didn't have lunch either" she said.
Shit! Say something Aurelia!
I tried to hide my fear as best as I could and said, "Yeah..I must be getting my period or something. This usually happens to me before I get them"
That was smart. I'm actually proud of myself for thinking about that so fast!
Maddie and Dallas chuckled but Demi was not buying it. She looked at me, her eyes holding that glint of fear- Fear that I had turned into her.
I looked down at my hands, avoiding her gaze.
"Well, you gotta have something Aurie. Have some soup, yeah?" she said.
I decided to go along with it so that Demi would let go of the suspicion.
I could always purge it up later.
Demi's POV
We were sitting at a restaurant, scanning through the menus when Aurie spoke up.
"I'm not that hungry. You guys can order your food." she said.
My head shot up at that. I hadn't seen her eat properly the whole day. She had missed lunch since she was sleeping and hadn't eaten anything after that either.
Panic rose up inside of me at the thought of my sister having an eating disorder.
I tried to remain calm and said, "Ree, you didn't have lunch either."
A glint of fear spread across her face but she immediately masked it with a smile and said, "Yeah..I must be getting my period or something. This usually happens to me before I get my period."
She looked at me and then instantly shifted her gaze down. She was lying. I could tell by the way she was fiddling with her hands and not making any eye contact. I had done this too many times before, I knew it all too well.
I wasn't going to let her get away with not eating. Not when I knew what was happening.
"Well, you gotta have something Aurie. Have some soup, yeah?" I suggested.
She hesitated but then finally agreed.
Yeah, I know you think I should let go and not worry because she agreed, but before that she had hesitated and that was not normal. Not for a girl I had seen growing up over the years.
