Chapter 9

The wolf comes out

 When i awoke it was twenty to midnight. I got up, didn't even bother changing out of my pj's and headed to the clearing. When i got there Alex was already waiting, i stood watching him for a moment. Watching the way the moon made his eyes shine, watching his lazy posture shift. I walked into the clearing and Alex turned and looked at me. "There you are, are you ready we are going to do the same thing as last time, only now I'm going to go harder." I looked into his eyes, trying to hear his thoughts like i did with Carmen. -alright attack her now- i herd and as he finished his thought he attacked. I lept out of the way easily and he said "how did you know when i was going to attack?" "I can hear thoughts, i could before  was changed." Me made a small noise of wonder. And then he continued his attacks. It went on like that for a good three hours before Alex called a break. We sat down side by side at the edge if the clearing. We were talking when some thing rustled on the other side of the clearing. We both froze instantly, out of the under bush stepped Demetre fallowed by a bunch of people that were clearly not from the academy. Alex stood up at the same moment i did "what are you doing here Demetre. Last i remember your not aloud on academy grounds unless u need to be." Demetre growled "well we need to be here to dispose of that." He indicated me. Alex instantly took on a defencive position in front of me. "She isn't like Chantal. She is different i know she is i can feel she is. I... i... i trust her, i will defend her if i need to." Demetre stepped forward threateningly "get out of the way now Alex." Alex didn't budge. "Fine we will kill you both." Alex instantly turned around "RUN VEE, AND DON'T STOP!" I turned and fled becoming scared. I herd shouts that were replaced with snarls of wolves. I herd yelping that slowly faded away, then I heard some one running after me. It was paws not feet. I kept running, but i noticed that slowly i was going faster and faster till the trees blurred past. I looked back and saw a light gray wolf behind me. I turned back and saw a canyon in front of me, i tried to stop but it was to late i was going to have to jump. At the edge of the cliff i pushed of from the ground and lept in a great arch. At the peek of my jump i felt a shiver pass through me, i herd the wolf behind me howl. When i landed i felt odd, like i was lopsided. I looked down and instead of seeing feet, i saw black paws. I was a wolf now. I finally shifted for the first time. I reached another clearing and skidded to a stop, i wiped around to face my pursuer. When the light gray wolf slid to a stop in front of me i lept on him. I don't know what made me do it maybe wolf instincts, maybe just common sense. We fought when we finely broke apart we both had wounds. We sprang again meeting in the middle. I bit the gray wolf in neck. It yelpped and turned tail and fled. I turned back into a human with out even realising it until i started shivering i picked up my jacket off the ground. I was some how still clothed. I heard running steps coming toward me and out of pure instinct i turned and ran. I ran and ran. I ran for about one mile, then the ground vanished from beneath my feet. I started to fall and closed my eyes. I felt a strong hand close on my hand and hold me there. I opened my eyes and saw Alex, his face screwed up from the strain of holding me. "Alex" i said. I looked down at the waves and watched them become smaller as Alex started pulling me back up, when i got up i fell into his arms. We sat there for a munit, Alex holding me in his arms, me with my eyes half closed. Finally Alex spoke "i thought you were dead and that when i was chasing you it was your killer. You phased didn't you? Thats why your shivering isn't it?" I nodded "you saved me. I thought i was going to fall and... and."  Alex ran a finger across my cheek in soothing, calming circles. "Its OK your safe now. I wouldn't let you die. Your important to me. I know this may seem strange but i love you Vee, i don't know if you feel the same way but i just thought you should know that." I shifted in Alex's arms so i could look in his eyes " I feel the same way Alex, i have liked you since i first met you." Alex smiled "how would you like to go on a date with me tomorrow, we could get off this island, Go get ice cream." "That sounds great." I said, Alex squeezed me tighter to his chest. I gasped in pain from my many cuts that the grey wolf had inflicted. Alex looked at me shocked "i am so sorry i should have realised-" i cut him off "it OK, i don't mind it when I'm with you." I shifted back into his arms, we sat there for a good hour watching the sun come up over the water. We heard shouting, "look over by the cliff." We both stood up but I suddenly felt dizzy. As i fell to the ground i  herd Alex shouting my name but then i blacked out.
