I Spy

Chapter 24- The Reunion

"Mom wake up," Mitch says tapping her shoulder. "we have a surprise for you."
Mrs. Brady stands up wearily, rubbing her eyes. "Yeah." She says groggily. Her face pales, she trembles backwards and falls on the floor with tear droplets pouring down her cheeks.
"Mason..."
"Shhhh now. I'm here." He says holding her close.
"I thought I'd never see you again. I thought..."
"It's okay, I'm here now."
I get everybody else awake as the reunion stirs into play I watch with hatred. Not that I'm upset Mitch's dad is home, I'm happy for him. Just right now I wish my mom was here.
My dad clears his throat, "Aren't we going to get going? I thought we were talking about putting an end to Mrs. and Mr. Bird."
"Oh of course." Mrs. Brady announces. "But I think I'm going to stay here."
"That's a good idea. I actually think Mitch and I should be the ones doing this," I take a breath, "you guys stay here."
Of course when I say this a rumble of replies burst from everyone around us. "It's not safe!" My dad says firmly.
"I don't care we are going to put an end to this, right now! What do ya say Mitch?"
"I agree. Let's go get those jail birds!" He says snickering. (I can tell he still loves his joke.)
"Ok it's settled, Mitch and I will get some weapons and be on our way."
"Okay." My dad says taking in a big breath. "Just please be carful. I don't want to lose you like I lost your mother."
"I will dad."
He kisses me on the head and walks to the back of the room.
"You, Mitchell, be very careful as well." Mrs. Brady says soothingly.
"I will, you don't have to worry about me." He says cheerfully.
He turns to me and I can tell we are thinking the exact same thing, "Lets do this thing!"
