*Jaya POV*
"Mr. De Santi will be with you shortly."
"Thank you." I said as I sat down on the seat in the waiting room. I had a choice of picking any neutral place and I opted for his office. I didn't know what was wrong with me sometimes.
"Remind me again why we picked his office?" Nico asked from beside me.
I shrugged my shoulders, "Honestly I don't know. I couldn't think of anywhere else."
"You ever been here before?"
I shook my head, "I've only been to his annual Christmas parties they host at different hotels. I think I'd remember being in something so nice." I said looking around and taking in the decorations. The place was done in a mix of metal and neutral colors giving off a modern yet sophisticated urban feel. Whoever did up this place deserved all the praise.
"You want me to get their number?" he teased.
I rolled my eyes hitting him lightly against his shoulder, "that's not necessary."
Luca's secretary came up to us, "excuse me. When you're ready I'll take you to the conference room for your meeting."
"Oh," I said confused, "I thought he was going to meet us out here before the meeting?"
"I believe he got a phone call."
I bet he did. I sarcastically thought as we got up and followed her. We were silent for the first few steps.
"Nervous?" Nico whispered.
"I can't tell yet. You?"
"Honestly yes. Not to where I'm shaking in my boots, but that feeling you get right before you do or say something important."
I knew what he meant. As Head Nurse some of my responsibilities were having quarterly meetings with other heads of staff and some of the admin. No matter how many times I'm prepped for this, I always got that nervous rolling feeling in my stomach. Yet once the meeting got started, I was always fine and in the zone. Even now I felt myself start to get that feeling. But would I still be so unbiased in the meeting with Luca? It was different with the others because that was only work. Nothing was emotionally invested there, but here was another story.
She led us to a room that was all glass and had a great view of the city. A nice dark cherry wood table was in the middle of the office with chairs that had wefted lumbar support surrounding the table. It reminded me of the rooms the lawyer characters used in those tv shows Luca liked to watch.
The secretary walked over to the windows surrounding the room and pushed a button. After a clicking sound, a pair of shades rolled down. We looked at her a little confused. Was that really necessary? This is just supposed to be some informal meeting.
"Privacy for your meeting." was all she said.
"Thank you." Nico said.
"My pleasure. Can I get you guys anything to drink while you wait?"
"An espresso for me. Two sugars." Nico said.
"Chai tea with a little bit of milk."
"Alright. I'll have those ready for you shortly," she said closing the door after her.
I walked over and ran my hand over the chair enjoying the rubbing sensation against my fingers.
"So...this is it." I said somewhat lamely still not exactly sure what to expect.
"Yea no goin' back." He teased.
"Like I even could or want to."
He gave me a soft smile as he placed a hand over mine, "well think of it like this. We've already gone through hell, what's one more hurdle?"
