  Rin's POV

****

We were all called upon urgently, assembled before the Hokage as well as several shinobi from Kumogakure who looked unusually grim and worried. I caught the whisper of someone called Yugito.

I frowned. Yugito. My mind spun as I remembered. Yugito. The Two Tails jinchurriki.

Did something happen to her?

"Thank you for arriving at such a late notice," the Hokage spoke grimly, "unfortunately, due to an incident in Kumogakure, and the emergency alert—we will have to cancel the one month given for training and proceed immediately to the finals."

I felt shock ebb through me. Emergency alert? It dawned on me. Something happened to Yugito? She didn't seem the type to be captured or killed so easily. Kumogakure would be distressed—anyone who took the jinchurriki—a vicious one at that, could not be up to any good. This didn't only apply to Kumogakure, it applied to the other Shinobi nations as well.

  One month canceled.

"Fuck,"Mizuchi cursed, "Who the hell took Yugito? It can't be the Akatsuki—then who—" His jaw slacked.

  "What?" I demanded.

"Fuckity fuck fuck—" Mizuchi hissed, "it has to be that pedo snake, it has to be—"

"How am I going to warn Shisui and Itachi—" I felt my mind crumble with distress.

Incredulous muttering filled the room from the genin but none of them had the guts to stand up to the Hokage. "Then when will the exams start?" One of the genin asked.

"Right now," the Hokage's answer was immediate as I tensed.

"That snake fucker had to screw this all up—" Mizuchi muttered, as all of us were led to the arena, as the proctor stood in the center of it as the shinobi watched us—their eyes piercing. "Maybe we might still have a chance before we fight—" Mizuchi ventured but not before I froze.

"First up—" the proctor said, looking down at his clipboard, "Meiko Yuka of Kumogakure and—"

  "Shit," Mizuchi cursed.

  Rin of Amegakure, no surname.

I stepped up nervously as Yona and Haruto gave me a look and cheered at me to go on, the latter telling me to be careful. When I saw my opponent, I understood why. I saw the Kumogakure genin that I had fought against in the Forest of Death. She smiled in a predatory manner at me, but something was unusually hostile about her. Mizuchi stiffened, baring his fangs.

"What the fuck is this—" he hissed nervously, "her chakra....it feels off—Rin—be careful, something's not right."

"Well, if it isn't the green haired brat from Amegakure," she grinned as I studied her intently. Mizuchi was right—a strange tension prickled through the air.
The proctor looked between the two of us. "Please begin." He stepped back just in time as I saw the kunoichi's foot lash out towards my face as I blocked it with my arm—my senses rushing overtime as I returned it with a kick to the face. She fell backwards, but used her arm to flip back onto her feet, her eyes narrowed.

Several shuriken were spun towards her face as I kept my eyes trained on the target. Deflecting them with her kunai, she held it in a defensive stance as I mirrored her position. Then, suddenly, she threw down her weapon with no warning.

The proctor looked at her. "Are you forfeiting?"

She had no answer but just looked at me with a laugh. "Let's get the party started, shall we?"

Suddenly, there was a huge jet of chakra flaring up into the air as the kunoichi grinned, her eyes shifted to a dangerous shade of blue as all around her, cobalt flames erupted. She formed hand seals and her katana flew towards my face, as I ducked the lightning that she imbued with it.

"This is definitely not a fucking party!" Mizuchi yelled as the girl hissed, her pupils becomings slits and her hair writhing like snakes as the blue chakra grew stronger and stronger. The crowd in the arena gasped as I saw several jonin making their way towards her. The killing intent soared into the air.

"Kumogakure—withdraw n—" The proctor said, stepping forwards but not before a bright blue paw appeared out of nowhere, smashing him into the wall. I saw another claw aimed towards me as I flipped backwards and avoided its movements. Just as I tried to summon chakra, the girl's chakra erupted in a column of flame as the hazy outline of two tails grew stronger. Before I could back away, one of the paws hurtled straight at my face as I tried to dodge it, but I was too late. The impact knocked me off my feet as I felt pain erupt through my entire body before my body smashed into the side of the arena, creating a giant crater. It was hard to breathe—hard to see.

I shook my head, trying to blink as my vision turned hazy but not before I saw the girl aiming another paw towards my face. I was too slow to stop it. My eyes widened with horror as Yona leapt in front of me, her eyes screwed in concentration as she let out a cry and made an Earth barrier but the blow struck it into pieces, sending her flying backwards. Yona hit the wall and didn't move.

Haruto leapt towards the girl but the Two Tails swatted him away as easy as a ball of yarn as he crumpled to the ground. Several jonin were already launching attacks but the girl seemed unfazed, smiling cruelly as I saw her body glow again.

"Shit," Mizuchi cursed, "the idiot didn't have the same training as Yugito—she's going to transform into its final state."

The girl raised her arms as her body disappeared entirely, leaving the dark blue form of an enormous wild cat, it's fangs bared as black and blue flames swirled around it. In an instant, it turned towards Yona and Haruto, and a ball of fire erupted from its mouth.

"Suiton! Suiryūdan no jutsu!" I allowed Mizuchi's chakra to engulf my nerves as a large water dragon emerged and formed a protective barrier, the water hissing as it met the fire ball before vaporizing completely. The girl inside of the Two Tails emerged for a second, eyes wide with rage as she performed several hand seals and countless shuriken emerged, all twirling at lightning speed as blue electricity ate at them. The jonin were all trying to fight off her Two Tails counterpart and evacuating the screaming citizens.

Pain tore at my chest as visions of the war shot into my mind. The bijuu—the Ten Tails.....it was becoming hard to breathe as I gasped for air.....Obito dying.....my hands shook violently.....

"Oh, no, no, no—Rin, now's not the time to have a panic attack!" Mizuchi cried out in desperation.

I hadn't had one for years. Not since the war. But now, as I saw Yona and Haruto, I remembered the bodies of the dead children who lay on the battlefield, eyes blank like empty mirrors.

My hands shook. My vision turned hazy. There were so many shuriken....and the bijuu was too powerful. I had a mission. I couldn't blow my cover. But as I looked at Yona, I remembered how she leapt in front of me without a second of hesitation.

Obito's words to me in the other timeline resurfaced. "This world has no place for shinobi with humanity in their hearts."

I pulled out my kunai and as the girl shot the shuriken and fire, I shunshinned and opened my eyes—two red eyes with three black tomoe, spinning dangerously.
