********A new routine came about—Sakura arrived one hour earlier for training every day and slowly but surely, her stamina was improving. Naruto had begun to grasp the concept of chakra control and instead of laughing boisterously, he could be found sitting silently underneath a tree and meditating. Rin had finally convinced Jiraiya to help teach Naruto to control the power of the Kyuubi though the condition was that she had to buy his full Icha Icha series. Sasuke often trained one on one with her to master his Sharingan as the Uchiha prodigy rose rapidly in skill level and power. As for Sakura, Rin began to teach her how to mold chakra into her fists as well as focusing her chakra into dams so that she could store and release it whenever she needed it. Sakura had a more difficult time than her, not having anywhere near the amount of chakra that Rin was able to spare. She knew the genin would stalk her whenever she would go to Keiko's bakery and pretty much anywhere but she decided not to bring it up. At any rate, it would be helpful to their teamwork.
At night, Shisui and her would walk around the Uchiha district, each slowly bringing out painful memories. It was a slow form of therapy, as Mizuchi thought, and he wasn't that opposed to it. Rin felt slight comfort in knowing that Shisui Uchiha, the one that Itachi had told her about, the hidden hero of the Leaf had just as many trials in life. That he wasn't some hero on an untouchable pedestal. As for Shisui, he had found an unlikely person to confide in. They somehow could understand each other easily, knowing what words were truths and what were truths that were yet to be discovered.
Both veterans of the war, both possessing the stage of Mangekyou, and both having been flawed too many times to count.
Rin slowly felt less nervous around him though her skin still sparked whenever she felt his touch on her hand or arm. What were they? Friends? Companions? Something more? Rin couldn't distinguish the lines between them but talking with him was different than talking with....say, Keiko.
She could read his expressions to an extent and Mizuchi had been pushing her to confess for a while now. He kept repeating that the best way to know someone's feelings was to talk to them. Rin felt embarrassed and reluctant to do so, but when Mizuchi said to her slyly that Shisui might be interested in someone else, Rin had snapped to attention. There was a burning sensation in the pit of her stomach that made her want to punch anyone in a three mile radius to hell. Rin normally wasn't even this bloodthirsty, but Mizuchi simply grinned at his own handiwork.
"Shisui—" Rin began slowly, "Do...do you...might...." She stuttered, "do you—"
"Yes," Shisui answered, interrupting her with a slight smile. He didn't look fazed in the least.
"H-huh?" Rin was taken aback, "What are you—"
A slight smile took hold on his lips as he took a step closer to her as Rin unconsciously stepped back, her back colliding with the side of the wall that separated the Uchiha compound from the village. Shisui had to look down at her from his height as he said, almost teasingly, "I believe I already told you that you are far from a master of hiding your emotions. You're not that hard of a read, Rin—" He cocked his head to the side, Rin now noticing that the heat between their bodies had increased almost threefold. He placed his hand above her head, leaning a bit closer as the teasing glint faded and his next words were utterly serious, meant, and sincere, "I believe you were going to ask me whether I liked you or not so the answer is this: Yes, Rin. I like you. You caught my attention ever since you made such a horrible shot with your shuriken during the Chunin exams and you have been keeping my attention ever since you've left to go with Jiraiya sama."
