Just to clarify, Rin doesn't know about the whole Orochimaru incident within Konoha; I'm not sure if it makes sense but there would be no possible way for her to know about it since all of the meetings in the Akatsuki are kept as confidential as possible in the previous timeline. So yeah, some shit is about to go down but not exactly as it happens in the anime since a lot of stuff changed.

The Chunin Exams were duly under way. As Rin expected, Naruto had stirred up his fellow genin to stay inside the room, surprising even Ibiki Morino—the new head of the interrogation department. The next stage inside the Forest of Death. They had succeeded with more bruises and cuts than was preferred but survived all the same. Rin remembered squeezing her genin so tightly in her hug that they nearly choked to death.

However too many candidates had survived and so a new preliminary match was set up. Sasuke won through clever use of his Sharingan and Naruto won through very interesting tactics against Kiba. Sakura vs Ino. There was change in the girl. She had the same look in her eyes as Naruto that told that she wouldn't be giving up anytime soon. Ino struck against her with her Mind Transfer Technique but the girl surprisingly threw it off with sheer willpower before she lunged directly at the ground before Ino.

"Shannaro!"

The ground split into fissures as Ino was thrown backwards and both Naruto and Sasuke's jaws dropped.

"Winner—Haruno Sakura!"

Sakura grinned at the two of them before all three of them came to her. "We passed! Rin sensei, we passed!"

Her entire team had passed.

They settled down to watch the other matches.

Gaara vs. Rock Lee.

Rin had never seen such determination that the boy held. She remembered him—him and his mentor fighting off Madara by opening the Eight Gates. Gaara was one of the jinchurriki—the look in his eyes, however, were murderous and filled with hollow emptiness.

Jinchurriki were neglected by the villages—he and Naruto—both of them must have faced the same treatment.

When the preliminaries ended, they were all given a month to recuperate as well as train. Naruto had already agreed to go with Jiraiya to learn how to use the Rasengan while Sakura and Sasuke turned to her for assistance. Rin used her best judgement and advised their respective mentors.

"Just send them to their previous ones in the other timeline," Mizuchi said, "that's probably for the best."

Both Kakashi and Tsunade had a heart attack that day, seeing two genin looking up at them respectively. Thus,Sasuke excelled with Chidori, suited perfectly to his natural speed and Sakura accordingly, as Tsunade had constantly nagged Rin, had much more talent that the green haired jonin ever had in her entire body with medical ninjutsu.

Rin knew the last stage was the bloodiest—pitting genin against genin and most of the important officials would go that day and place bets on their champions. And so, she naturally flocked to get research done. It seemed that she wasn't the only one, however, and so, she took one of the discs that recorded the Chunin Exams of one of the years held in Konoha.

When Rin returned home and set up the TV to see the film, she saw her father freeze when he saw the date on the disc. He asked if she could see a different Chunin Exams recording.

Obito remembered that particular Chunin exam year. He had been nailed to the face two times in a row with Might Guy's kick. It was an embarrassing moment that he could probably never live down.
