They blinked when they were transported outside the cavern. The birds were chirping and the sky was a blue that spoke of relief. Rin allowed her Mangekyou to relax back to her normal three tomoe Sharingan. Sakura still felt her knees shake from the encounter with death.

She looked at her sensei in a newfound light. Rin sensei had never once looked weak but she remembered the sheer amount of chakra that vibrated off of her. She didn't even look afraid. Was this what a shinobi had to be? Unafraid even in front of death? Sakura remembered what she put down for the exam, that shinobi were not supposed to reveal their emotions in battle.

Sakura's fist squeezed. She was useless. She was helpless.

All she could do was scream and watch. Naruto and Sasuke—they both completed the mission. What had she done?

She couldn't be the one to be left behind. She had to get better, she had to get stronger. Sakura grit her teeth. Her fist shook violently. She was going to get stronger.

She had to take care of herself now, not just be a hindrance and scream for help. She was a kunoichi of Konohagakure, not some fangirl who had no use in the world. She was going to make herself be acknowledged.

A few seconds later, what looked like a huge white bird swooped into their vision, the bloody forms of Sasuke and Naruto on the top with a blonde young man who was wearing the same outfit as the puppeteer. "Rin sensei!" Naruto leapt off and tackled the green haired jonin into a hug as Rin froze, stunned for a moment.

"We finished the mission, dattebayo!" Naruto cried, "but we were so worried that—"

Rin looked down at the genin, his blue eyes wide. She smiled fondly and ruffled his hair before her attentions snapped to Sasuke. He was hobbling rather badly, blood dripping from his wounds. Rin immediately tensed and rushed over to him before she caught him and laid him on the ground. She placed her hand against his chest and her Sharingan glanced into the injuries. "Mizuchi?" Rin questioned.

"Got you, bitch—" Mizuchi hummed as chakra entered her system and taking off her gloves, Rin's hands were enveloped in glowing green chakra that she placed on top of his injuries. Slowly but surely, Sasuke's wounds closed up as Rin steadily pumped as much chakra was needed into the wounded boy. When Sasuke stirred, he gave her a weak smile.

"Sensei—" He croaked as Rin touched his face gently, "I got the Sharingan."

Rin pursed her lips, before she gave him a comforting nod. "How does it feel?"

Sasuke seemed unlike himself as he grinned faintly, "It feels different."

Rin felt her throat rise from pain. One of the first C ranks and she couldn't even protect them.

"Don't talk like that," Mizuchi murmured, "sooner or later, they had to face danger. If you really are their sensei, then train them even harder to fight against them—"

Rin nodded before she turned to Deidara and Sasori. "Arigato—" she thanked them, a corner of her heart aching as she gazed upon them. She had missed them.

"Tch," Sasori clicked his tongue before he glared at her, "you grew—you should be shorter."

Deidara laughed, "Sasori no Danna is just mad that you aren't a little girl anymore, un—"

Sasori glared at Deidara but simply tch'd in indifference before turning away. "Whatever, brat."

Just then, there was a familiar voice ringing from behind them. "Oi—genderbend, Pinocchio—" Rin whipped around to see the silver haired Jashinist and Kakuzu advancing, their eyes trained on them, "What the hell was taking so long? Fucking leader wanted a report and we just had to stand there like fucking losers—"
