it wasn't that I didn't want to talk to iris, believe me I did. but I was finally moving on from Alex. I met  this girl named danielle shortly after iris left, and she's great. I was on a date with her. that's why I was busy.

"who was that?"

"oh it was just my, my umm"

"your what?" I was nervous. how would she react knowing I had a daughter.

"it was my daughter" I said quietly

"your daughter? well there must be a story behind it"

"you really want to know"

"yes I do"

"ok. I was a young stupid idiot teenager with hormones. same with my girlfriend Alex. then we had iris. I stuck around, not because I felt I had to. because I wanted to. I was in love with Alex and I instantly fell in love with iris when she was born. I made a promise that I would never leave them. and I didn't Alex and I got married at a young age. Alex was on a lot of medication and one night. one night, s-she overdosed. just like that, I lost her. I've been in a couple if different relationships over the years and they've all ended bad. I pretty much gave up dating after that. but when I met you, there was something different about you. and I like that"

"vic I'm so sorry"

"don't be. I haven't been the best parent lately. its like all I do is hurt the people closest to me, especially iris. right now she's staying with my brother. this way I can't hurt her"

"vic, its ok. none of this is your fault. you must have had a lot on your mind"  I put my arm around her and pulled her into a hug

"I'm sorry I'm acting like this. I shouldn't have said anything"

"hey it's fine you needed to get this off your chest. you look better, now there's not anything holding you down" she said. we pulled in for a kiss making me smile.

"you know I haven't been this happy in a while. how would you like to meet iris?"

we pulled up to mikes place. I was nervous. would mike even let me talk to her? how would iris react?

"beware of mike he can have some, umm anger issues sometimes"

"hey its gonna be fine" we walked up to the door. thank god alysha answered it.

"hey I'm here to see iris. is it ok if I talk to her?"

"sure come in" she said stepping back and letting us in. mike turned around and I could tell he was a little angry.

"what are you doing here?" he said with his teeth clenched

"I'm here to see my daughter" I said with confidence.

"fine I'll go get her" he said sighing in defeat.

they came back out and I wrapped iris in a hug.

"hey baby girl how you doing?"

"I'm good but, what are you doing here?"

"what I can't see my own daughter?" I said making her smile. we all sat down on the couch

"um guys this is danielle she's my new girlfriend"

"oh nice to meet you. I'm alysha" alysha said extending her hand out. at least she likes her.

"how long are you guys staying?" mike asked clearly a little angry I was here

"I don't know. I thought we could hang out and I could catch up with iris"

"hey there's an extra bedroom downstairs you guys can stay in if you want to" alysha said. I looked at danielle for permission

"I don't mind I don't have work tomorrow so sure"

"cool than we'll stay.

.....

the rest of the night we all hung around the kitchen drinking and everyone else getting to know danielle. I noticed something different about iris. I could tell she felt out of place. I felt bad. she got up and walked to her room. me following.

"hey baby girl" said laying on  the bed next to her. "what's wrong"

"when can I come back with you?"

"why what's up"

"I love mike and alysha it's just I miss you. and its like they never see me. I'm in my room all the time and its like they don't realize I'm here."

"I don't think mike realized what he was doing when he took you away"

"and I miss you"

"how about you come back home with me tomorrow?"

"really" she said with hope in her eyes.

"yea"

"thank you daddy" she said hugging me

"so what do youbthink about danielle?"

"I like her, I think she's really nice and that you guys look really cute together"

"aww thanks. so anything else I should know about? have you still been hurting yourself?" I didn't want to bring it up but I knew I had to

"not much actually. this really nice boy named Luke helped me stop" she said smiling

"a boy?"

"yea a boy" she was still smiling its like her head was somewhere else

"is there more to this story?"

"today he kissed me and told me I was beautiful and he asked me to be his girlfriend"

"oh really. we'll he looks like he makes you happy. and I like seeing you happy. but if he hurts you I'll break him"

"ok. dad?"

"yea?"

"I love you" she said before falling asleep with a smile on her face.

my little girl is finally happy
