22. Unicorn Doughnuts

"Hey Maddox!" Jesse yelled from across the parking lot. "Hey" Maddox waves walking over to us.

I've been boring Jesse for like an hour and a half doing nothing. Well technically I was making a planning board and He was doing nothing.

But I mean sitting in awkward silence for an hour can be kind of boring, I guess.

We had been sitting in the parking lot for about an hour and a half waiting for 8:00.

" Uh how long have you been here?" Jesse asked.

" Not long, My dad just dropped me off on the other side of the building." Maddox said his voice faltering slightly.

I'm no polygraph test but it sounds like that's maybe not 100% true. I thought.

" Okay lets go in." I said ushering them inside the coffee shop.

Inside everything was nice and quiet considering it opened at 7:30 not very many people were there.

The smell of freshly baked cakes and pastries ran through the air.

It smelled so amazingly good.

My body screamed muffins! Cupcakes! Pastries! Pie! Basically anything sweet!

Anyway back to business. I thought.

" Okay guys" I started walking towards a table near the back of the Cafe.

" Okay we need a plan.." I said slowly looking at Maddox directly.

It took me only a moment to realize Jesse was paying no attention at all.

He was staring off to the door. " Jesse! For goodness sake we are trying to solve a mystery here!" I yelled annoyed waving my hand in front of his face.

Jesse still didn't move.

"Jesse what is wrong with you?" I said very annoyed.

" Look!" Jesse said pointing.

I looked at the door then at Maddox who shook his head indicating he didn't understand either.

" What is it? All I see is the door" I said staring where Jesse was pointing.

"How do you not see it?!" Jesse said annoyed but excitedly.

" Okay now you are freaking us out." Maddox said looking straight at him.

" They have unicorn doughnuts!" Jesse yelled causing everyone to look at him. I looked where he was pointing and saw a giant poster.

" We wasted 10 Minutes for unicorn doughnuts?" I said ready to lose it.

Maddox laughed,
" I didn't know you were so grown up!" Maddox said sarcastically laughing uncontrollably.

" Okay, calm down cowboy it's not that funny." I said smiling.

I sighed.

"Go get three unicorn doughnuts then get back over here and be ready to focus" I said annoyed handing Jesse a 20 dollar bill.

" I love you" Jesse said running up to the counter.

" He's a 5 year old girl stuck in a 17 year olds body." I said seriously. Causing Maddox to fall off his chair in uncontrollable laughter once again.

" Dang, we aren't going to get anything done." I muttered laughing.
