Nada's mom looked up from the journal after only the first page. Nada remembered exactly how it opened: I decided to record the feelings I feel and the thoughts I think as long as I feel and think. Words were words, but these had meaning, right?

She shook her head. "I'm going to keep this, Sabine. I feel as though you need a break from this. Also, I need to read the rest to see if this is serious."

"It is." Nada said, pushing her hair behind her ear. "It really is."

Sabine sighed. "It's nothing! It's a story I'm writing."

"You've never showed any interest in writing or reading before."

"So? I don't always show it. I'm a nerd." Sabine looked away.

Nada noticed something flash through her mom's eyes. No, mom. Just, no.

"Go, please, girls. I would like time on my own. Oh, and also," She added as the girls turned to walk out. "Stay out of each other's rooms."

Sabine gave Nada a dirty look upon closing the door. "You little bitch, you don't know what you're getting yourself into."

"I know perfectly well that you are a murderer. Soon, my mom will, too. You'll have to either kill us, or leave, and I'm sure you'll want to leave. My dad's a cop."

Sabine got into Nada's face. Nada didn't like that. "Your dad may be a cop, but he's not here anymore. No daddy's little girl, no anything. He's gone, and he's not coming back. He'll never come back because of your mom and his sister. Don't you know what happened? Nothing will ever be okay again, your own brother will never know you. You'll never see your own dad again."

"Sabine, you don't know anything!" Nada screamed. Her face was red with anger.

Aunt Kim came down the hall. "What is with you two lately?" She demanded.

"Nada is on her period, and is raging with hormones." Sabine answered, not a note of hesitation in her voice.

She is such a good liar. It's sickening! Nada thought. "Shut up, Sabine! You and your lies! I;m sick of it!"

"Why would I lie to someone who was nice enough to take me in and care for me after such a tragic mishap to my family?"

"EXACTLY! You talk as though you've already planned this!" Nada was still raging with anger. Who cared if she was on her period? Her anger was at Sabine, not the week long cycle of mother nature's gift.

"Sabine, why don't you come into town with me? I have an interview and I'd like some support. And you can meet up with someone, if you like."

Sabine wrinkled her nose. Why couldn't Kim stay out of this? Why did she have to be in the way.

An idea came into her mind. Perfect. "No, thanks. I'd rather stay here and swim. It's pretty warm outside."

Nada saw something in Sabine's eyes. An idea. A very dangerous idea. Something that would get what she wanted. Nada just didn't know what exactly Sabine wanted all together, or piece by piece.

"I'm going for a ride." Nada muttered, walking out of the house. "Don't need me."

She walked out to the barn, then untied her horse. "Hey, bud. Want to go riding?"

Saddling him was distracting, because she wanted to think at the same time that she couldn't. It was a new difficulty every time she did. Her horse didn't like to be saddled. Casey always fought her. "Hey, boy. Stay still, okay? Bareback isn't a favourite pass time of mine to ride, especially on weeks like this one."
