The water was almost completely dark. Nada was careful not to open her mouth, because if she did, she would start breathing. She knew that. How far down was she? Three feet? Five feet? Twenty-five feet? She didn't even know how deep this part of the pond was! Where was the bottom?

She took a gulp of the air that she had packed in her cheeks. Got to keep my air good, cause hopefully this won't take long. She swam deeper, deeper, skimming the flashlight around the dark water. Looking up, she realized she had never been this deep before. The water had never looked so black.

Her air supply was running low. She knew that. It had to be, at this depth. How low was she? How deep was this pond? She never thought to ask her mom before she went down. Which was stupid.

Just when she thought there was no bottom, she saw the light hit a body. She put the light between her legs, clicking a picture of the police man. She noticed that there were more than one set of feet. Kayla's body was there. Why hadn't her mom asked?

She clicked picture after picture. There were several bodies down there.

Realizing there was no more air to spare, she started kicking to the surface. She could feel the temperature rise, and was surprised she didn't feel it drop so severely.

Keep kicking. The surface has to be coming soon!! She thought, clutching the flashlight and the camera for dear life.

When she finally did break the surface, she inhaled deeper than she ever had before. Completely filling her lungs, then completely emptying them. In out, in out.

"Did you get it?" Mal called.

Nada nodded, still gulping in air. Breath, exhale. Inhale. Exhale. She was okay now. She started swimming to shore when she felt something grab her foot, pulling her under.

She wanted to scream. That was her first instinct, but she was under water and had to hold on to the little bit of air she had left in her lungs. She hadn't even thought of taking in a quick breath before she went under! How stupid. She started kicking, kicking. Then she turned and snapped a picture, blinding herself and the creature that held her foot with the bright flash.

She swam back up to the surface, feeling an arm encircle her, knowing immediately that it was Kyle. Only he had arms as muscular as that.

He pulled her above water and she gasped. They raced to shore, where Mal wrapped Nada in a towel and pulled her inside.

While Nada was in the shower, Mal uploaded the pictures from the camera to her laptop. She gasped as she saw that there was more than one watery figure in the pictures.

Kyle looked over her shoulder. "Well, there's where Kayla went. She and Sarah are all over the news. And the missing police man."

"Why is she killing all these people?" Mal asked, holding back a shudder. She was a grown ass woman and she was afraid.

"Kyle," Nada said from the hall. She wore an old football jersey of his and a pair of sweat pants. Her hair was pulled back in a tight french braid. "We have school tomorrow. Come on."

"Where am I sleeping?" He asked.

Mal nodded at Nada. "Nada's room. Protect each other."

Nada and Kyle nodded at Nada's mother and walked slowly to Nada's room.

Sabine looked up. She had heard footsteps behind her when they had abruptly stopped. This wasn't a very busy road, so of course she got suspicious. If she had to, she'd defend herself.
