Nada sat on her bed, hugging her knees, rocking back and forth. Sabine had honestly scared her to be pale. She didn't know what to do!
Bully. She had read Bully over and over again.
But she couldn't tell anyone what Sabine was, who she was.
What was she going to do?
Sabine was crazy!!
Absolutely freaking crazy. And it was hurting Nada, too. Nada was going to go insane by the end of the week! She had to do something before Sabine changed her mind and came after her and her mom. Or even her dad and brother. Or Kyle. No, not Kyle.
School would be starting soon. Hopefully things would get better when summer was over.
She still couldn't get the picture of the police officer out of her mind.
Sabine had slice the body open, ignoring the blood seeping everywhere. Come on, even Nada knew that was evidence! She had put rocks in it, then stitched it back up. Then Nada and her mom had to canoe it out to the middle of the pond and dumped it there.
It was horrifying.
Nada was still rocking when her mom came into her room.
"I'm sorry, baby. I know that had to be traumatizing for you."
Nada nodded, but kept rocking.
"I'm going to do the best I can, all right?"
There was no response for Mal. She was getting nothing form her daughter. She wanted to help her, but she knew that after Sabine was gone, if they were still alive, Nada would need serious therapy. There was no getting past this easily.
"Do you want to sleep in here tonight?" Mal asked, trying one more time to get her daughter to talk.
"What I want," Nada said, rocking and looking straight forward, seeing Sabine down the hall. "Is that bitch out of our house, mom."
Mal was taken aback by the fact that he daughter swore. But she understood. She just didn't know what to do for her daughter. She couldn't just give up Sabine. If she gave up Sabine, not only would she face the problem of Sabine wanting to kill them, but she'd have another family to kill.
She had hidden the journal, not knowing what to do. She just wanted to help her daughter and stop the blonde from killing more.
"I'm trying, sweety. Do you want to sleep in my room tonight?"
Nada looked up at her ceiling, seeing her stars but not feeling her sense of calmness she usually did. She was afraid.
"Yeah, mom. I do."
Mal carried her daughter down the hall, through the living room, to her room.
Nada was silent the rest of the night, even though she was awake. Her mom didn't sleep, either. Sabine, a room and a hall away, slept as soundly as she had before the day happened.
--
Nada rolled over and saw her mom still asleep- or faking sleep. School was starting tomorrow. Thank goodness! Nada was a year older than Sabine....
She got up and got dressed.
"Mom?"
"Huh?"
"I'm going to Kyle's."
"You're walking?"
"Don't worry about it. I'm just telling you where I'm going."
She walked out of the house, and Kyle's dad was parked in the drive way. She climbed in the backseat, next to Kyle, and closed the door.
"Please, drive like Hell."
Christian nodded and they started back down the driveway.
"You okay?" Kyle asked.
Nada nodded. "Yeah, yeah. I'm just- No, I'm not. Sabine is crazy."
"Is she-" Kyle stopped and looked at his dad.
"I don't think so. But she's-" She cut herself off. "What have you been up to?"
"Getting ready for school to start." He smiled and snaked his arm around Nada's shoulders.
"Yeah, s-same here."
She hated lying. Especially to him.
"She's a fucked up girl, isn't she?" Kyle's dad asked.
"What?"
Christian nodded at her and looked in the rear view mirror. "Sabine. The blonde staying at your house. She's fucked up?"
Nada nodded. "Beyond. And I don't know what to do. I almost want to go live with my dad."
"Then you'll be away from me." Kyle said, resting his chin on Nada's shoulder.
"But, I'll be safe. You have no idea what she's done, and I'm afraid!"
"What did she do?" Christian asked.
"My aunt Kim is dead. She died yesterday. Because Sabine screwed with the car. I watched her. It, like, blew up."
"What?" Both the boys asked.
Nada nodded.
"You can stay with us for a while, until it's okay. Right, dad? She can stay with us. I don't want her near that devil."
"That's just it, if I leave, she has access to all my stuff. And my mom. I have to protect her."
Kyle's grip on his girlfriend tightened. "I don't want you hurt."
"I need help, Kyle. Will you help me? Tomorrow, I'm going to try to take her down."
"Why would you need to do that?"
"Because she kills. And I don't want to die just yet."
