Lyla POV
I woke up to the sound of a door closing. I reached on my dresser to switch on my ocean lamp. I pricked my finger on something sharp, so I opened my eyes and saw a glass figurine of a mermaid. It was very detailed and beautiful. It looked exactly like my tail. I stroked her hair but it didn't feel like glass. It felt soft and hard at the same time. What is this made of?
I couldn't worry about the figurine for long though, because I remembered we should be having breakfast by now.
"Crystal, Jade, wake up!" I yelled.
"Huhghghhh....." Jade mumbled.
"Guys! We're going to miss breakfast!" I shook them and they finally got up.
I walked into the bathroom to get a little fixed up. I brushed my hair, and my teeth. I picked out my camo shorts and a black tanktop. I put a little bit of mascara on, and left the rest of my look natural.
I walked down the tiny hall, and I heard people talking. Guess they woke up early.
Even though I knew it was wrong, I stopped walking and listened to what they were saying.
"She's back!" Cleo and Lewis told Rikki, Emma, and two other men.
"Okay, stop with the she's back! jokes. They aren't funny anymore." Rikki made a mock-surprized face when she said the words 'she's back.'
"This is NO joke Rikki! I'm DEAD serious!!!!!" Cleo showed a face of true concern.
"Denman is not getting any of you this time! I told you I was going to make it up to you, and I'm keeping that promise." Rikki's husband said.
"Zane's right. We're going to protect you!" Lewis said to Cleo.
So Rikki's husband is named Zane....who's Denman? I thought.
"Ash, will you help Lewis and Zane?" Emma asked a brown headed man beside her.
"Of course I will Emma, you mean everything to me." He kissed her on the cheek.
I acted like I had just walked in. Everyone clammed up.
"Oh hey Lyla! Breakfast is in the kitchen, it's pancakes with orange juice." Rikki danced her shoulders and playfully grinned.
"Cool. Thanks Rikki." I smirked and walked into the kitchen.
I grabbed a plate, put a pancake on it, and grabbed one of the plastic cups.
The cabinet was full of expensive glass china, so a plastic cup was hard to find.
"Not to be rude, but what brings you all here?" I asked.
"Well, we live on the Gold Coast of Australia, but my mom moved to Florida three years ago with my dad. I heard she got deathly ill, so I called up my close friends and here we are." Emma explained.
"That sounds devastating! How long have you known Cleo and Rikki?" I asked Emma, getting curious.
She smiled brightly with her teeth and said, "Well, if you must know, I've known these two since I was your age!"
"Fifteen years?!" I asked with wide eyes.
"Fifteen years." Cleo smiled.
"Wow! While we're talking, where did you get that figurine in your mom's guest room?" About this time, I heard Jade and Crystal walk in.
"Oh, that mermaid..." she looked at Lewis.
"Um, well, our good friend Bella-" He was cut off by Rikki, "Emma's mom collects that kind of stuff."
I sensed a lie.
"So anyway....Crystal, Jade, you guys want breakfast?" Emma changed the subject.
"Sure! Thanks!" Crystal said.
They started grabbing plates and getting pancakes. Cleo and the rest of the group walked into the kitchen as well.
I opened the fridge to get the orange juice and sat it on the table. I grabbed my cup and started slowly and carefully pouring it.
It was getting crowded, and as I was pouring, Ash knocked into me and I over-filled the glass. The juice spilled all over the counter and dripped on the floor. I quickly backed up to avoid getting the juice on my feet.
The whole jug almost knocked over so I frantically grabbed for it. Rikki, Cleo, Emma, Crystal, and Jade ran over to help me.
However, they all slipped on the juice on the floor and slid into me, knocking me over. We all fell on the ground and the jug busted, splashing all over us.
We were too beaten up to take cover in our bedrooms, so once our tails arrived, I was expecting to be in a science lab.
"WHAT?!?!" Everyone screamed at eachother. The trio of older girls all had tails just like us!
"You...tails?!?" Everyone jinxed.
"Okay, okay, woah. You mean you guys are mermaids too??!?!" I finally said.
"Likewise!!" Rikki exclaimed.
"How did this happen?!" Cleo asked, confused.
"The moon pool." Rikki said.
