Lyla POV
"What are we going to do?! How do we escape?" I was freaking out. I felt the walls and the ceiling to find an exit.
"Calm down no one ever works good under pressure!" Jade held my shoulder, so I calmed down.
We spoke a little too soon. The tank rumbled, and bubbles popped up on the surface. The water levels were dropping rapidly. A huge drain was sucking water outside, so I figured this was our only way out.
"Come on guys! The water levels are dropping!" I dove under and let the drain pull me out.
"OWW!" we all screamed, cracking into what felt like concrete, then sinking beneath the surface.
Warmth.
I opened my eyes to find myself underwater. We fell into another tank! But this one was...clear...and we were no longer invisible. This place didn't even look normal anyway, it was indoors and by the pressure of the water -or maybe just mermaid intuition- I knew we were under ground a few feet.
A whole crowd was in front of me. They all had cameras, taking pictures and videos. I recognized three...no, four faces. Cleo, Emma, Rikki, and...Heather?! All of them shocked to see three mermaids captured and kept in a tank. And the fact that Heather's own sister was one of them.
They frantically ran around trying to find a way to get us out of there. About that time, I saw that strange old lady me, Crystal, and Jade had bumped into on the beach. She grabbed a microphone from one of the men wearing tuxedos and started shouting things.
Heather POV
"See? I told you I wasn't crazy!! There are mermaids! MERMAIDS!" Denman shouted.
"Oh my gosh what are we going to do?!?! Our secret is out!!!!" I screamed at Emma, one of the older mermaids.
They told me everything after accidently seeing my tail. Everything but the fact that my sister is a mermaid!
"Shh! Let me ask you an important question!" Rikki said, moving her hand into a closed fist.
"Yes, what?" I rushed her.
"Did you find your powers yet?"
"Power(s)? Mermaid's have more then one?!"
"Every mermaid has two powers! One when she first becomes one, two after one year of full moons. You get a new one if you are in the moon pool under the new year full moonlight of the second year!" She explained as she squeezed her fist so tight it started shaking.
"That was so confusing."
"You've obviously only had a few full moon experiences." Rikki said, but she never broke concentration.
"Wait!" Cleo interrupted, "remember that one time when we stored the moonlight into the crystals in our lockets?!"
"Oh my gosh. Yes! I have them here!!" Emma reached into her bag that she normally carried around.
"And you know what, I have three special necklaces for three special girls. You know, for beginners. Reach into my pocket, Cleo." Rikki said and Cleo grabbed three different necklaces out of Rikki's pocket. "I meant to give these to them before, but never had the chance."
They were beautiful! They had a mermaid looking at a tiny circle locket with swirling blue lines on it. [for more visual, look up H2O mermaid pendant]
"What does this do?" I asked.
"Have you heard of a moon ring?" She looked at me and I had a blank face. "Well, anyway, these are purely absorbers. They take in moonlight. We happened to have these last full moon. Another mermaid gave them to us. The secret is in the tiny locket. Go find a way to give these to Crystal, Jade, and Lyla. They need to leave immediately." She gave me the lockets.
I noticed the blue flowers on the front of the locket. They were glowing.
"Leave town? Temporarily?" I asked.
"No they need to leave the United States. Forever."
