Lyla POV

"Ohh....how long have we been running?" I stopped and put my hands on my knees to catch my breath.

We must've been running for days!

"Only six hours...we still have a long way to go." Jade checked her phone's map app.

"Ohhhh!" I groaned at this horrible news.

"We need to get a few miles away from this town, then find some way to cross the entire United States, get to the Pacific Coast so we can swim halfway across the ocean, make a stop in Hawaii, and swim the rest of the way to Australia." Crystal stated.

"How are we supposed to cross the United States?!?!?" I asked, getting irritated by this 'plan'.

"I don't know Lyla, but we'll find a way. We always do." Jade said and gave me a look I felt meant 'tactful?'.

It was getting dark outside, but I knew we were on a back road surrounded by woods. By now, we must've been at least 7-8 miles away from Naples, FL.

"You know what we've never even discussed?" I said, and sat down on a fallen tree.

"What?" They both asked and sat beside me.

"Remember that one time at the Café when you froze that coffee that almost spilled on you? We never ended up figuring out what that was! I know that we have magical powers over water, but we never actually sat down and practiced them. And now we have more powers in our necklaces that Rikki, Cleo and Emma gave us."

Jade raised her eyebrows. "She's completely right! I say we should try right now."

She grabbed a water bottle from our bag and opened it.

"I'll go first." Jade flattened her hand and held her fingers together just like what she did that day.

The water froze.

"I guess we really do have powers."

You'd think that would be obvious by now, but we never had a little experimentation.

"I'll go next." I did a high five position, then bent my fingers slowly inward, and focused entirely on the bottle of water.

The frozen water melted and boiled until I released it.

"Okay, that's amazing." Crystal said in awe.

She did a high five position, and turned her hand like a bathtub nob. Then she gradually raised her arm up.

A little water tentacle followed her every move, until she released it.

She looked at me and Jade, smirked, and raised a glob of water out of the bottle.

She bent her elbow, still suspending the glob, then stiffened it with great strength.

The water turned into a beautiful mermaid figurine. She still held it in midair, and nodded at Jade, who froze it.

"What if it melts?" I asked.

"I don't know." Crystal released her hold on the figurine, and it fell into her outstretched hands. "Maybe we could lock in some air bubbles."
