Heather POV
I have to get these to Lyla, Crystal, and Jade! I thought, running across the velvet carpet, my eyes not leaving the huge, transparent tank.
With my sister in it.
Tears formed in my eyes just by the thought of it all. I didn't have time to sob, so once I reached the end of the tank's 'tunnel', I raced up the ramp and into the cool, fresh air. Everything was so beautiful, but I knew I had a limited amount of time before every thing I loved was gone. I saw someone walking up to me that looked a little younger then me, maybe Lyla's age, and it was a boy.
I didn't wait to see his face, but I walked up the extended sidewalk that Emma had told me about. She said that the only accessible part of the tank is the surface, and you had to be outside to find it.
I found a lake-like body of water a few feet from the tank-tunnel exit. (Sorry! So confusing!)
The boy was getting awfully close, and by now I could see every detail of his face. He was actually really hot, and by now I recognized him from Lyla's school.
"Are you Lyla's sister?" He asked rudely.
"Um...yeah. Look, I'm busy and I can't talk right now Hunter."
Cleo's POV
"Now, we shall release the mermaids, and take them to my laboratory in-" Denman started, but couldn't finish.
Rikki melted the microphone.
"UGH! WHAT'S HAPPENING!" Denman shrieked.
"Nice work!" Emma said, smiling and looking at Rikki.
"Heather should be up there by now, but we should wait a while before we carry out the plan." Cleo added.
Heather POV
"I think you can. I need some answers, and I guess there's no asking Miss Lyla Mermaid." Hunter slowly stepped closer to me.
"You know about Lyla?" It was more a statement than a question. I was getting scared by the minute, and I was afraid of what he might do.
"Everyone knows. Freak." He smirked and grabbed my waist.
"LET GO OF ME!" I screamed and tried to pull his arms off, but it was useless.
"I know what you are." He picked me up like a pillow, and threw me into the water.
"NO!" I fell into the water back-first, but I never let go of the lockets.
10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1....
I transformed, and opened my eyes. I could see Lyla, Crystal, and Jade not very far away, still trying to find a way out.
I used my tail to my advantage and torpedoed through the water. It had been a while since I went swimming, and I almost forgot how amazing it felt to glide gracefully through the waves.
I tapped on their shoulders and pointed towards the surface. They swam up with me.
Once we broke the surface, they were gasping for air.
"Lyla! You guys! Rikki, Cleo, and Emma wanted me to give these to you! Hurry up we need to leave town immediately!" I quickly hooked on the necklaces and to my amazement, their tails disappeared!
"What are these things?" Lyla asked, as she touched the tiny locket, and ran her finger across the mermaid carving.
"I don't know myself, but they're obviously magical, and you need to wear them. I think the other mermaids said something about them giving you multiple powers." I told them, "but you need to leave now."
I could tell it felt weird for them to swim with legs, so I grabbed their hands and dragged them to the edge.
It was easy for them to get out with legs, however for me, having a heavy tail is much harder.
"Come on, let's pull her out!" Lyla said, and grabbed my arm.
"No, just leave me for now, you need to run! You must go!" I ordered so she gave a weak smile and they took off on their Run Away.
"I love you Heather!" She screamed.

How was that for a twist? Sorry I made Hunter evil, I just thought it would make things more interesting. Get prepared for the next chapter, because things are about to get fishy!
