We were all dried off and sitting on the couch.
"Well, it all started when I moved....first I see my sister with a tail, Crystal and Jade come over. We...went on a mission? I don't know...we found some strange pool of water...or no, it was a cave. It was both." I said, recollecting my memories.
Rikki inhales sharply and gives Cleo a look.
"We fell in. The full moon...the water was bubbling...it was all too real. The next day-or maybe the same day- I don't really remember, we all had tails..." Jade finished the story.
"You're saying that brat- I mean your sister, is a mermaid?!?" Zane asked.
"Yep." I forced my eyes closed and shook my head.
"Is there...any way to draw away her powers?" Crystal asked the three mermaids.
"All the planets have to be lined up on a full moon, and you have to be in the moon pool when it passes over. That's the only way." Emma said sounding just as disappointed.
I scratched my head then asked, "And how many times does that happen?"
Lewis looked at the floor. "Once every fifty years."
"Ugh! How long has it been since this happened?!" I said wishing not all hope was lost.
Lewis sighed in response and said, "Fifteen years ago."
"Wait a minute, on a different topic, where did you guys become mermaids at?" The question suddenly erupted.
Emma answered, "Oh. That's the easiest question all morning. We became mermaids at Mako Island on a full moon as well. It's off the Gold Coast of Australia. Cleo and Rikki met another mermaid from Ireland named Bella. It's a long story, but there were also three more mermaids before us.
"You guys are the third generation. The only things keeping the generations of mermaids going on is Mako, your moon pool, Bella's moon pool in Ireland, and all of us. We have to have children!
"They will be full mermaids (mermaids that cannot EVER have legs) if a mermaid marries a merman. They will be half mermaids (human when dry, mermaid when wet) if a mermaid marries a human. A human woman cannot give birth to a mermaid/merman even if a merman married her. Only a mermaid can give birth to a mermaid/merman. That's why it's so important to keep the mermaids around." Emma explained.
"Wow...this is alot to take in! How did you learn all this stuff?!" I asked the girls.
They all said the same thing, "Lewis."
"So...we're keeping Heather around?" I asked uneasy.
"That's up to you three.'' Cleo said sternly.
I looked at Jade and Crystal, and we all thought the same thing.
"I say we boot her. I'll carry two more babies in her place." I said proudly.
"You're very strong Lyla, I admire that." Rikki smiled and pulled me into a hug.
"This one reminds me of, well...me!!" Emma pointed at Jade and hugged her as well.
Crystal giggled and hugged Cleo.
"Good luck guys, I know you can do it." Cleo smiled brightly.
