Today is a rainy and gloomy day, which can reflect how Jack is feeling inside. He sits there looking at the droplets of rain on his office windows, can't focus on getting his work done. Physically and mentally he is fine, but emotionally he feels like shit.
Jack Kennedy didn't cry or show emotion, but he is feeling like shit. Maybe it's guilt more than anything because he had just hung up from calling Jackie. Telling her that he needed to talk to her tonight. Today is the day he is going to break up with her.
He knew that he should have broken things off with Jackie months ago, but he thought he could get into her panties faster.
It's the chase he likes, and now that the chase is over he finds himself wanting more. Still, Jack doesn't want to get married and Jackie does. She wants a husband and kids, a family.
He plans to settle with a long-time girlfriend or a woman who will give him two children. Neither of these situations will result in marriage. Jackie deserves so much more.
The worst part of all this is he let Jackie fall in love with him. Although she wouldn't be the first woman to fall for the Kennedy charm.
He can let a woman go with no problem; kill an enemy without a second thought. He has shot a man point-blank and shed not one tear. But breaking up with Jackie is pulling at his heartstrings.
-----
Jack is sitting on the couch holding a glass of scotch listening to Frank Sinatra's "In the Wee Small Hours."
He didn't want to break Jackie's heart but he didn't want to continue to string her along. He can't promise Jackie the future that she is looking for.
Fifteen minutes later there is a knock at the door announcing Jackie's arrival. He sighs walking towards the door.
"Hi honey," Jackie says kissing him.
"Hi," he says.
She looks at him and asks "what's wrong?"
"Jackie, sit down I need to talk to you," he says sitting down on the coffee table. She looks at him, something tells her that she's not going to like what he's about to say.
"What's wrong Jack?"
"Jackie what I'm about to say isn't easy sweetheart but...I can't continue to see you anymore," he says looking into her eyes.
"Why Jack?" she asks feeling like the wind has just been knocked out of her.
"Believe me, sweetheart, it's not you, it's me. You're a good woman who deserves to be with someone who can give you what you want. I don't want you to get caught up in this dangerous life I live."
"I want to be with you Jack," Jackie says a tear coming down her cheek.
"I know Kid. I am an old man set in his ways. Marriage is something I don't want, ever. So instead of giving you hope. I think we should go our separate ways." Jack says looking down at his hands.
"Do you love me, Jack? I guess the real question is did you ever love me?" she asks.
He sighs not sure how he could break it to her gently.
"Look, Jackie, I never fell in love with any woman. I don't think I ever will. I'm not the type of man to show emotion. I guess you can blame my parents for that. For me, I like to come and go as I please without having to explain myself. It's just about sex."
Jackie looks at him and he can see her brown eyes get darker, meaning that she is angry.
"So that's all this was for? The shopping sprees, expensive dinners, offering to pay my tuition was just a way for you to get into my panties?"
Jack looks down at his hands.
"I can't believe this!" she continues, "I thought you loved me, you wanted to be with me. In actuality I was just another girl to add to your list of women you slept with, " she says wiping another tear away.
"I'm sorry Jackie," he says solemnly.
She puts her hands over her face not wanting him to see her cry.
"I'll always care about you Jackie and I hope that we can be friends," he says.
"You want us to be friends? How can I be friends with you after you played with my heart? Were there others you were sleeping with while you were waiting for me to sleep with you? Before I slept with you on my birthday a couple of weeks ago?"
He was hoping that she didn't ask this question, but he had no other choice but, to be honest.
"Yes, there were others."
She sits there and looks at him.
"I need to leave," she says getting up abruptly.
"Jackie I'm sorry I lead you on, I didn't mean for it to go this far," Jack says.
"Save it, Jack! You knew what you were doing and now that you got what you wanted you're done with me! I don't ever want to see you again!" Jackie replies storming towards the door.
Jack gets up and follows her to the door.
"I'm sorry Jackie," Jack says one last time.
"Whatever, I'll be sending you all the things you bought me," Jackie says walking through the door.
"You don't have to give it back, I want you to keep it all," he says following her to the elevator.
"I don't want anything from you, John, I don't want anything to remind me of the man I fell in love with," she says getting on to the elevator.
Once the doors closed he stands there. He walks back into his apartment and looks out the window. A few moments later he sees Jackie's car pull out of the garage and turn down the street.
He feels bad and knows he broke her heart. This is why he never wanted to get involved with any woman because of moments like this. The only thing is Jackie didn't deserve it.
Usually, after dismissing one girl he calls over another. Tonight he just wants to be alone.
He turns the stereo back on and lets Frank continue to sing about heartache and the blues. He hates that Jackie has this effect on him making him feel guilty.
He is going to get over her as he has gotten over the others. No woman tied down Jack Kennedy.
Walking into the kitchen he picks his phone up and tries to decide who he wants to call. After going through his phone he doesn't feel like being bothered. Jack downs the last of his scotch and goes to bed.
Eventually, he will be able to get Jacqueline Bouvier out of his system.
