Jack wakes up early so he could get to the bank. He meets up with his private banker who explains why he needs to withdraw such a large amount. Thankfully he was able to get half a million, but he would need to go to another branch to get the other half. After going to another branch twenty minutes away he pulls over on the way back to call Sam.
"Giancana," says the voice on the other end.
"Sam it's Jack. I have your money, now where's Jackie?"
"She's right here, getting ready to meet her maker if you're not here within the next four hours."
"How the hell can I get the money to you if you didn't tell me where I am coming to?" Jack barks into the phone.
"Careful Kennedy, your little girlfriend can go earlier. Meet me at Pier twenty-four in two hours," Sam says before disconnecting the call.
Jack sits there and is terrified. He prays that Sam doesn't hurt her just to spite him. Right now he needs to get to Sam as quickly as possible. Once he got her back from Sam, then what? He doesn't want any of his enemies coming for her. If he could eliminate Sam, then he really wouldn't have to worry.
In the past 24 hours, he's realized that his feelings for Jackie ran deeper than a platonic relationship or just casual sex. He has to be honest with himself. She's a good woman who loves him and is nothing like his mother. But the new feeling he is feeling makes him uncomfortable. He wasn't sure if it's what people called being in "love."
Just then his phone rings bringing him out of his thoughts.
"Are you ok Jack? Were you able to get the money to save Jackie?" Mac asks.
"I'm fine, and yes I was able to get it. I'm on my way back now to meet with Sam now." Jack replies starting the car back up.
"Good, the guys and I just need the address."
Jack tells Mac they are to meet at Pier twenty-four and to stand down unless he needs them. The last thing he needs is for Sam to kill Jackie because of an ambush.
Mac, can I ask you a personal question?" Jack asks after giving the instructions.
"Uh sure."
Jack sighs, "Mac, how did you know that you were in love with Margaret?"
Mac looks at his phone to make sure he is talking to the right person. For as long as he's known Jack, he's never heard him use the word love let alone use the word to describe his favorite food.
"Mac?"
"Sorry. I guess because I couldn't stop thinking about her. Margaret's smile could light up my world. When I see her I would get excited, no other woman turned me on like her. I guess I knew that I couldn't see myself without her."
He ponders everything Mac has just said. He described how he feels about Jackie.
"What does love feel like?" Jack asks breaking the silence.
"Happiness or I guess feeling like with her by your side you can accomplish anything. I can't tell you, Jack, because your definition will be different than mine. But I will say this; Jackie is a good woman and letting her go will be the biggest mistake you could ever make. You know that you love her but you're just being stubborn because you don't want to end up like your mom and pop. You can't live your life like that because you and Jackie are not them. If you don't make things right with Jackie when you get her back, you'll be watching her walk down the aisle to marry another man."
"God knows I miss her. If I don't get her back Mac I'll never forgive myself," Jack says running a hand through his hair.
"You'll get her back."
"I know. It's gonna take more than a lot of gifts to fix this. I just hope she can adjust to this lifestyle."
"I don't know, depending on how she is after all this will determine the work you'll have to put in."
"Thanks, Mac," Jack says.
"You're welcome boss, see you soon," Mac says before disconnecting the call.
—————
Jackie is lying down on the bed in the room they are keeping her in.
It feels like its been 3 days since she's been captured, even though it's only been twenty-four hours. All she thinks about is how she hopes Jack can save her. Plus it doesn't help that she miss him. So much for trying to get over him.
All she could do is replay the night they first made love in her head. How gentle he was, how attentive he was. Despite it being uncomfortable, it's a night she'll never forget. John Kennedy is a skillful lover.
There is the fact that he told her he couldn't be with her because he didn't want to get married. Not because he didn't care for her but he didn't want to string her along longer than he's already done. She appreciates his honesty, but he was too late in giving it.
Jackie closes her eyes when she hears the door to the room open.
"You can get up, it's time to go," says Davis.
Jackie sighs and sits up on the side of the bed. She follows Davis downstairs to where there is a waiting car running.
"Let's go," Sam says grabbing her by the arm pushing her towards the car. She falters but can prevent herself from hitting her head on the side of the car.
Once the car takes off, her heart begins to race and she can only hope that Jack can get to her soon.
