Luckily, all eyes were off me for dinner that night.

We sat out back on the deck and ate pizza from some pizza place Eddie told me was a staple in Ale and his childhood. "It's pretty much all we ate," he joked. His mom quickly stepped in, assuring me they didn't really and he was just exaggerating.

Gale was talking his parents' ears off rather violently about all the glorious adventures he was having at Sawyer. All Eddie's parents seemed concerned about were how his grades were looking. Georgie was the only person who talked to me and I was relieved for that. It would have been just as awkward to sit there silently than it was to be interrogated.

"How do you manage dating my brother?" he asked while handing me a slice from the box. I was on the far left side beside Eddie, an outlier. The boxes were up by the right side, close enough for Georgie to reach comfortably. Just the smell of that greasy wonder was making my stomach rumble uncomfortably. It had been a while since I'd eaten. A few hours, maybe.

The honest answer to Georgie's question was that I loved Ed and he was everything I needed. That was also the crazy answer, however.

I smiled weakly, watching Ed chuckle along with his parents out of the corner of my eye. It was a strange kind of fascinating how well these families got along. Was that normal? "Magic, I guess?" I responded hesitantly.

Georgie chuckled. "Yeah, that'd about do it! Magic and a whole hell of a lot of patience." He munched away at a slice, looking me over not-so-discretely. "No offense, you just don't seem like the type of guys who'd be into each other. I see you with someone soft who hangs out at poetry readings and adores Adele, not a hockey-puck like my brother."

"Uh," I stammered, moving my gaze down to my pizza. He was bringing up the one point I'd been terrified of someone making. So far, we'd managed to avoid that, but Georgie wasn't hiding. I was more than sure other people- i.e. the parents- saw it too and were just too polite to say anything. Eddie and I wouldn't seem to fit to most people. As perfect as we felt together, others wouldn't realize. We were on two completely different hemispheres in regards to our social standings.

But that didn't matter, not to Ed and not to me. It'd never matter to us.

"Eddie's wonderful," I finally managed to sputter out, closing my hand into a fist to stop the trembling. Oh god, why did I agree to coming here again?

At the sound of his name coming off my lips, my boyfriend turned to look at me. "I am?" he teased, poking me in the arm. I flushed, nodding. "You don't need to lie for me, sweetie."

"I'm not! You're amazing," I giggled, unable to help myself. The sound was so loud it had everyone looking at me. "Um, I-I mean..."

"Cutie," Eddie accused. He kissed me on the cheek. It was quick but it was showy.

I love you so incredibly much. I smiled. "I know you are, but what am I?" I whispered shyly, shoving a small pizza bite in my mouth.

"You guys!" Georgie sighed dramatically, his face lit up like an airport. "Definitely an upgrade from your old dates, Eddie. I'm proud you managed to snatch him up."

"So am I," Eddie agreed, taking my hand under the table. Gale squealed along with Georgie, while the adults looked on. Both moms looked ready to burst with joy while the dads both simply watched, indifferent.

I couldn't tell if that was a good thing or not.
