Ed's kisses were wet. Somehow, during that week since we'd been on freeze, I had forgotten that. While we sat together on the couch, making up for that lost time, I kept giggling because it was so disorienting how familiar it was. Eddie was kissing me with all his might, holding my tiny body as though it were the single most precious thing in the world to him, and all I could do was giggle while my lips struggled to keep up.
"What is so funny?" he chuckled along with me, brushing those fingers of his against my cheek. If I wasn't mistaken, he was touching the same spot where Kyla had bruised me after New Years. Of course, that had faded, but sometimes I swore I could still feel it. "You're in a good mood tonight."
"Everything is funny," I admitted, lacing three of my fingers through his hair and tugging a little so that he'd crinkle his face in that cute way I adored. "I love your kisses. I love how soft you always are."
Eddie bestowed another peck to my lips, shrugging sweetly. "How else could I be with my baby?"
His baby. I was his baby.
I quickly glanced over my shoulder to the clock set up above the television. "Ale's gonna be home pretty soon," I sighed. "Should we clean up the candles and stuff?"
"Why?"
"'Cause it's Gale and we know he won't be mature about this," I continued to giggle, sliding off of Eddie's lap to the floor. With little grace, I recomposed myself and rushed into the kitchen to start blowing out the ambience-setting candles. Ed followed, rushing to put the plates and glass into the dishwasher. "So, did I do good for our first real date?"
"Sweetie, you did amazing," he praised, grinning at me while slamming the dishwasher's door shut. I leaned over the counter to give him a lingering kiss, pleased to have made him feel so proud of me. All I wanted was for Eddie to be happy. That wasn't obsessive; that was just being a good, loving boyfriend. Right?
Honestly, the line was a little blurry and I didn't know how to avoid crossing it. That was okay, though. Eddie would help me.
"Now what should we do?" I asked, glancing around to make sure there were no more remnants of our nice afternoon together. Gale always got off around three hours after Eddie, which meant we had around twenty minutes or so until he'd be home. It wasn't enough time to do much before he'd come barging in and start loading questions upon us.
Eddie extended his hand to me, still wearing that mischievous smirk. In that moment, I couldn't tell if I loved it or was afraid of it. Maybe it was a little bit of both and that was thrilling.
We ended up in front of his bedroom, our hands still locked together, and I gave him a hesitant look. "C'mon. We haven't practiced piano together since May. You're probably getting rusty!" he chuckled easily, giving me a smotheringly sweet kiss to the head.
Piano lessons. That was all he wanted.
My voice came out squeaky, "Oh, yeah. Okay!"
To start, he had me finger the keys for "Hot Crossed Buns," a simple piece easy for beginners of pretty much any instrument he had explained to me. Then, he took my hands and placed some of my fingers against a collection of keys. "Hit them in this order," he instructed, using his own fingers to guide me. "Does that sound familiar?"
"Uh-huh," I whispered, biting my lip to contain my grin. It was the accompaniment for "Hush Hush" by Avril Lavigne, the song he'd admitted reminded him of me a few lifetimes ago at Karaoke Night. That was also the night Kyla died, the night I sang with Barista Madison.
