"I'm not looking for somebody with some superhuman gifts. Some superhero, some fairy tale bless... Just someone I can turn to, somebody I can kiss. I WANT SOMETHING JUST LIKE THIS!" Eddie and I sang along in sync, our voices rising as the chorus started hard on Coldplay's "Something Just Like This."

I'd been flipping through his CD, grinning each time I heard the opening cords of one of my favorite songs, and I just had to stop when I heard the spaceship landing sigh that lead up to one of my newest musical obsessions. Eddie had pulled into the parking lot of the mall after we picked up some breakfast food from the local McDonalds. He said that he didn't currently have the key to his and Gale's apartment (it had fallen out of his pocket last week and he'd yet to get a new one), so we had no way of entering his place, and he was understanding about how we couldn't go to mine either. Kyla would flip if he found me alone with another guy in our space.

"You know, I get this song," Eddie told me, leaning back as he munched on some type of sandwich. I'd never eaten one before, but it didn't look half bad. It had eggs and some kind of sauce on it, which I'd usually become squeamish at the sight of, but today anything would have looked delectable. "In all honesty, you don't need anybody beyond perfect or anything. You just need someone you can be with. You just need someone you can feel happy with. Right?"

"When it comes to love or life in general?" I specified, unsure if I was missing his point while I picked awkwardly at my own little cup of oatmeal. It wasn't my favorite food out there, but I had faith I could stomach it. Maybe.

"Both," he nodded. "It'd be especially nice to find a partner like that, though. Someone you're comfortable with, someone you can talk to, someone you can love entirely without any conditions." Eddie hesitated, his eyes finding mine, "There's this amazing novel called Love Story, and it has this quote in it so many people many a big deal of. I never really got it, but I think I do now."

"What's the quote?"

"The quote is, Love means never having to say you are sorry." Eddie's eyes told me more than I knew his lips ever would. Out of politeness, he was veiling what message he was trying to get through to me with Coldplay songs and corny lines from books.

He was telling me Kyla didn't love me, which was a lie.

"People make mistakes," I argued. "We're all only human, Eddie."

"Humans and monsters aren't all that different, Clem."

"If this is about Kyla..." I set my oatmeal cup down, realizing already I'd never be able to stomach that lump crap. It was futile for me to dream I could. "You know what, never mind. Can't we just enjoy this? We were having fun. Let's keep having fun. Please?"

"Whatever you want, Clemmy," he agreed, digging into the paper bag to produce another sandwich. It was his, but he leaned over and handed it to me. "You really don't look like that oatmeal is appealing to you. Try one of these. I was saving that for Gale, but I think you need it more. We need to get some meat on those cute bones of yours."

I had already torn the wrapping off the sandwich and giggled a "thank you" before I realized what he said.

He called my bones cute.

My cheeks flushing once again, I took a bite out of the sandwich. It slid down my throat with ease. "This is delicious," I said, turning back to look at him. Eddie was watching me with those sweet eyes, full of... of something. I wished I could call it adoration, but I wasn't sure I knew what that looked like. It felt like the right word to use. My friend was eyeing me like I was his favorite character on his one of his beloved TV dramas. "Thanks again, Eddie."

"No problem, Clemmy. You know I'd do anything for you." I'd have probably squealed at that if I were paying more attention, but all I could think about was the fact that he thought my bones were cute.

BONUS*---*---*SCENE

"And the world keeps spinning round and round..."

"Eddie, it's just a washer."

"I enjoy watching the washer spin while singing Hairspray songs."

"Eddie."

"Why do you feel the need to judge me?"

"I'm not judging you."

"Good, because I'm kind of your ride home from the laundry mat."

"I can walk. I have two legs."

"No. You're already too thin. No more exercise for Clemmy!"

"My clothes are done."

"You should just do your laundry at Gale and I's apartment. Free of charge."

"I'm not taking advantage of you, Eddie."

"It's not taking advantage! It's letting us help you out. This probably gets expensive."

"Hand me that basket to put the clothes in, please?"

"I'd feel better if you didn't have to take a trip here every week. It's a little shifty."

"Every establishment around here is 'a little shifty.' You get used to it."

"Clemmy, please. Just say yes."

"Okay."

"Thank you!"

"You're too nice for your own good. Stop folding my boyfriend's underwear! This is weird!"

"I'm trying to help."

"Dude, I am serious! Don't do that!"

"Ah, you're laughing. You think this is funny."

"Give me his underwear back. Really, I don't want you touching his underwear. It's too weird."
