We're going to be late

"Kami!  Hurry up!  We're going to be late!"  Georgia yelled.

"Hold your horses!"  I yelled back as I looked for my keys. Where the hell did I put them?  I dug around my bedroom looking for them.  Between my sister and me, I was more disorganized, where she was neat. I was more laid back, where she laughed about everything.  We were opposites.

"Dad is going to kill us if we are late," she yelled.

I finally grabbed my keys and ran out of my bedroom.

"Finally," she huffed as we walked out of the apartment, closing the door behind us.

Did I mention Georgia hated being late, and well, I was always running late? Yeah, this didn't sit well with mom or our dads. Dads in plural because we have three dads. Georgia, Noah, and I had three dads. Scott, dad, who is Ben and Rob. They all shared responsibility for us. People thought it was weird, but we thought it was normal.

I drove to work as Georgia brought up the subject of dating once again.

"Kami, say you will meet him," she said to me.

"Georgia, I am quite fine being single. I don't know why everyone insists I meet someone?" I sighed. Yep, you heard that correctly. I was single as in no boyfriend or significant other, whereas my sister and friends wrapped themselves up in a guy. Those friends are Avie and Zoe.

Now before anyone gets the bright idea something happened, it didn't. I didn't want to settle. Sure I dated but there was never that spark, you know? No flash led to no second date and no boyfriend.

Then I got met with the question, "When are you going to meet someone? Do you have a boyfriend? And the best one, are you gay?" That would be a no, no, and no. My two dads are gay. It doesn't mean it destines me to be gay contrary to popular belief.

"Kami, I'm saying you never know, he could be the one," Georgia grinned at me.

"Really? A Hannah Montana song?" I gave her a look before rolling my eyes.

"Stranger things have happened," she laughed.

"Yeah, like you and Justin. How you two ended up together is beyond me," I said casually.

"Don't knock, Justin. At least dad didn't completely scare him off."

"That is true."

That would be our dad Scott who could scare the hell out of people but was a big softy when it came to us. Mom lovingly referred to him like a marshmallow.

I pulled into the parking lot of the office and got out of the car. We walked up to the entry and flashed our security badges at Miles, who granted us access.

We walked in as dad met us.

"You're late."

"Blame her," Georgia said, pointing at me. I gave her a look. There's nothing better than thrown under the bus by your loving sister.

"I couldn't find my keys," I shrugged.

"I wonder why?" Scott said with a look. "Kami, you need to be more organized."

"I am organized."

"For a slob," mom said, walking up and handing dad a coffee.

"I am. I know where everything is," I said emphatically.

"Would that be under the mound of clothes in your room or the clutter you have accumulated through the years?" Mom asked me.

I gave Mom a look.

"You forget we lived with you and visited your place," mom said to me.

"She's got the point," Georgia added.

"Okay, fine, I will clean my room," I huffed.

"But first, how about you do some work? I would hate to fire my daughters," dad said to us, which meant either get to work or goodbye. He didn't play with the company.

We hurried to our desks as we logged onto the computers and started working.

He looked at mom, "Sometimes I wonder about those two."

"Eh, you won't fire the girls, you big marshmallow," mom smirked.

"You are so paying for that when we get home," Scott said.

"I'm looking forward to it. Now, we need to talk about the new employee starting next week," she said. They walked towards dad's office.

This day would be a long day. Later on, Zoe and Avie were coming over to hang out with us. It had been a while since the four of us hung out. Zoe was busy with teaching, and Avie was busy working with Aunt Kara with the interior design business. Before anyone asks, no, they aren't our biological aunts, but they are close enough.

You don't need to be biologically related to love each other like it. When you're family, you're family.

As I worked, I heard Georgia say, "Psst."

I got up from my seat and looked at Georgia over the divider between our desks. "What?"

"Meet Justin's friend."

"No."

"Kami."

"Georgia."

"Please."

"No. I'm perfectly fine being single," I said to Georgia.

"One day, I will wear you down," Georgia said with a look.

"Good luck with that one," I said, rolling my eyes as I went back to work. Over my dead body will I agree to a setup. Yeah, thanks, but no thanks.

Knowing my sister and I do, she wouldn't stop until I meet Justin's friend. It was a disaster waiting to happen. I can see it now.
