Dom's POV

Kami showed me around the office, and I got the feeling she wasn't entirely happy with me. I didn't want to cause issues at work because I needed this job. I kept busy going over financials, and anything that came across my desk. I wanted to talk to her, but then things got tense at the office. I thought it was best to leave it alone.

I walked into the lunchroom, trying to decide what I wanted to eat when I saw Kami. She and Georgia walked in. They were talking as they took a seat. Hmm, maybe I could casually walk over and talk to her - clear the air.

I made my way over to the table they were sitting at in the lunchroom.

"Excuse me," I said as they stopped talking and looked at me. "I wanted to apologize if I did anything wrong. I don't want there to be any tension between us," I said to Kami.

She gave me a weird look, "What are you talking about, Dominick?"

"It's that you seemed angry with me on my first day, and I don't want to cause any problems," I said, trying to smooth things over with Kami.

Kami looked at Georgia, and Georgia whispered something to her, and she nodded. She turned back to me, "Yeah, sorry about that. It had nothing to do with you."

"Oh."

"It's complicated," she shrugged.

"I see."

They looked at me as I stood there. This moment couldn't be any more awkward.

"Excuse me," I said as I turned and walked away. I know Kami felt that spark between us. That's not something you develop over time. It's either there or isn't.

I had lunch then went back to work. This situation was harder than I thought - Kami, not the job. The job was easy enough since I was good with numbers and did a lot of accounting in different positions, but the problem was they didn't pay enough. This job paid more than the others, and I needed the money.

I was finishing up things when I heard a knock at my office door. I looked up to see Kami standing there.

"I think we got off to a rough start," she smiled. I stared at her.

"Uh, yeah." Why was I nervous all of a sudden?

"It's that the last guy that held that position wasn't perfect, and I was hoping Mr. Stevens would offer it to me, but then he hired you. Well, I ended up taking it out on you. I am sorry," she explained.

"It's okay. I understand where you're coming from; it's that I need this job. I need the money, and I don't want to cause any problems," I said to Kami. I didn't want to cause problems.

"Oh, okay."

Shit that sounded desperate. No girl like her would go for a guy looking desperate - new tactic.

"Sorry, I'm apprehensive," I said as she looked at me. Damn it. Why was I blowing this? "I mean, uh, um." Forget it; I sounded like a royal loser right now.

She walked closer to me, and I stared at her. Damn, she was beautiful.

"It's okay," she said softly. "We all have to start somewhere."

I sat there, not knowing what to say.

"How about we start over with each other? Hi, I'm Kami Sherwood," she said, holding out her hand to me. I took a deep breath and stood up. I took her hand, and that's when I felt it - that spark.

"Dominick Haywood," I said to her.

Our hands lingered, and I honestly didn't want to let go.

Finally, she slipped her hand out of mine, "Well, Dominick, how about tomorrow we have lunch, and I can explain more about things around here?" A smile curled upon her lips.
