Chapter 12

I sat next to Skylight and Chill, who argued over what happened.
"Clawpaw must have got lost, and couldn't find her way back. I mean, this is new territory... You guys have just got to think of the positive, and be chill" Chill shrugged. "But like, Clawpaw is a suspect, who knows what she could have done to the poor kit" Skylight looked around as if Gentle and Clawpaw would appear from thin air. "You already know what I think" Red growled. "Maybe she went looking for Flower?" Darkpelt suggested. "I think Gorgeous just made a terrible choice, and ignored our opinions" Grim growled quietly. Savage hissed at Grim. "Nobody asked you"

"Look...Grim and Red are right...Clawpaw is a suspect, and I let her go out with a kitten... That was a terrible choice. But there's nothing I can do now, but find them." Gorgeous said. I nodded, and we all turned around to look for them.
"Clawpaw!" Gorgeous exclaimed. I saw a limping, scared cat, come towards us weakly. "What did I say!?" Red hissed. Everyone tripped over their paws as they surrounded Clawpaw. She collapsed to the grassy floor. "Clawpaw! What happened?!" Gorgeous gasped. Clawpaw was covered in tiny scratches. They were bigger than Gentle's claws, but not too noticeably. "I didn't see my attacker- it was quick,- small, and sleek- I couldn't see what it was- it was too dark- but it attacked me- I was lucky to escape alive..." Clawpaw said through gasps of air. "Where's Gentle!" The words escaped my throat. "I-i don't know... She was there one second- gone the next- I heard her screams as- as my attackers ripped at my flesh- she might not have been as fortunate as me- to escape alive" Clawpaw said sadly. I looked down. 'No...'
"How many were there?" Savage asked. "I don't know... I didn't see them...but i-i think I saw eyes...green eyes...they looked cat-like" Clawpaw said softly. "Wow!" Red gasped fakely.
"I didn't see that coming!" He said, then growled.

"It wasn't me- it-" Clawpaw started weakly. "Don't worry...you can rest, while we find Gentle" Gorgeous said calmly. "Okay..." Clawpaw sighed.
Clawpaw got up but collapsed again. Silence grabbed Clawpaw by the scruff and took her towards Wise and Uni's den, which was a large log. Clawpaw went stiff for a few moments then relaxed.
"The kittens can stay here-" Gorgeous started. "No way! We're patrollers!" Better stood up proudly. "Okay..." Gorgeous sighed. "But Wise and Uni will stay with Clawpaw, anybody else is welcome to stay" Gorgeous said.
Blackhawk, Stubborn, Fuz and Curious turned around. "We still haven't got the chance to bury Shepherd..." Stubborn sighed sadly. "But I will join as soon as possible" Curious said. "No, nobody can just join without me knowing, if you choose to stay, you must stay until I'm back." Gorgeous looked to the others. "Who else will stay?" She asked.
"I'm going" Silver walked beside Gorgeous. "Then I'm coming too" Sensitive said. "No, you should stay" Silver said. Sensitive moaned. "Fine..."
"You can take care of Runt and Kit while I'm gone" Darkpelt nudged the kittens to Sensitive. "Maybe you will get some practice for your pups" Darkpelt winked. "You might turn me off kids" Sensitive snorted jokely.

"I need to be there to see the kittens corpse" Red mumbled. I felt sick thinking about it. Skylight and Chill followed Red next to Gorgeous.
"Of course I'm coming" Savage said.
After everyone decided, only Gorgeous, Silence, Savage, Darkpelt, Grim, R, Silver, Chill, Red, Skylight, Pitch and Black, were going.

"I thought you were a patroller!" Red said to Better. "I am. I just decided I would rather die as an old grumpy cat like you, than die as a beautiful little kitten like me." Better said. Red growled. "Let's go" Gorgeous said, as she ran into the trees. "Bye!" The triplets said.
I decided to go see Shepherd's grave, it wouldn't be very respectful to just sit here.
I walked towards where I heard a meow of pain.

'Poor guys...I hope they're not too upset about Shepherd's death...who knows what kind of crazy things grief can do to you'

I heard more meows of pain. It was coming from behind a tree. I walked in front of the tree, to see Fuz hanging upsidedown from the tail. A dog was holding her in his mouth. He looked at me with a cut up face.
"Your turn..."

Oh no, I'm so scared...

Blackhawk was holding Fuz in his mouth. "Ouch! Put me down!" Fuz yelped. "Okay" Blackhawk threw Fuz into a tree. Curious, Stubborn, Blackhawk, and even Fuz started laughing. What's going on?
I was going to ask but decided to stay there with my bottom jaw hanging a little.
"Hey Blue! Come on it's your turn!" Blackhawk said. "What! No! I came here to visit Shepherd's grave! Not be hung!" I said quickly. "Oh, okay, he's over there" Blackhawk pointed with his head, to a beautiful grave, covered in flowers and mossy stones.
Fuz came to Blackhawk and smacked him in the face. "You never hang a cat by its tail!" Fuz hissed playfully.
They don't even seem upset?
I accidentally thought out loud.
"We had our time being upset, now let's have some fun! If we don't, Shepherd will feel guilty for dying!" Curious said happily.
I guess it makes sense, it also sounds kind of disrespectful.
I walked past the four who were playing happily. I sat next to Shepherd's grave. Words were carved into the mossy stone:

Dear Shepherd. You have always been so loving and caring, and always put even strangers before you. So I'm sorry you had to leave us so soon. But I hope you don't have too much fun without us! I mean, it must be cool being a ghost! I can't wait! Oooooo.

That was...interesting...
I decided I should just ignore the four of them. Maybe I should visit Clawpaw. I padded to Wise and Uni. They were in a hollow log, with Clawpaw. I walked inside. "Hi" I said.
Wise smiled at me, then limped out of the log. "She's getting old..." Uni said sadly. "I'm not sure she's gonna last long" She said as I walked by her side. Clawpaw was sleeping.
"Uni?"
"Yes?" She turned to me. Her purplish mysterious eyes looked me up and down. "I have been thinking... Can you tell me about this clans past? Why do most if you have no parents? Why do Gorgeous and Savage seem like they don't like Grim?" I asked.
Uni let out a sigh. "Well...there was a disease...about 6 months ago... I was just a kit...8 months old... so, so many loved ones died to that disease. So many.

Lillypad and Rox, Gentle's parents.
Queen, Gorgeous's mother. My parents, Astride and Jack. Chill, Red, and Skylight's parents, Blue and Slash.
And so many more..."
Uni said, looking down at the floor.
"And Grim...he used to be apart of a clan, called The Claws. He was our worst enemy. He was a heartless killer. He didn't fight like most animals. He was great at strategy."
Uni said, looking up at me.

"What made him stop killing animals?" I asked.
"The disease. It was killing Queen, his mother and the Horizon clans leader.
The three siblings, Savage, Grim and Gorgeous, stood around Queen as she died. Her last words were:

" Please my kittens...stop this fighting... I will never be able to rest in peace, if I know my son wants to kill my clan and family. Please. Don't fight. Grim, join my clan, and be apart of our family again! "

So Grim agreed to this. But Gorgeous and Savage still didn't trust him.
Grim is still a heartless killer. He just has to stay in the clan...but I'm not sure how long it's going to last..."
Uni said.

"I'm so sorry..." I said softly.
"Don't be. It was meant to happen..." Uni said. "What was the cure for the disease?" I asked. "I don't know...nobody does. Just one day it, got cured. We don't even know how it was caused..." Uni said, to my surprise. "You don't know how it was caused?" I repeated. Uni shook her head.

We both thought about the story that was told, and the room, or the log, fell in silence. But I was the one to break that silence.
"What do you think of Clawpaw?" I asked, and we both looked at her.
"I don't think it was her. I don't think Gentle, remember her name? Gentle, would do so much damage." Uni looked at Clawpaw's leg. Her right hind leg was twisted the other way.
"If you ask me, I'm suspicious of Red. The one who said what was going to happen, and then, it happened, exactly as he said. I think he wanted us to suspect Clawpaw." Uni growled softly. "I don't know...I don't want to have to suspect anyone..." I said sadly.
"I know. Nobody wants-" Uni started sadly, but then we heard a ear bursting cry.

"Get the nurses ready!!!!"
