By the time dinner time came, Emmy had four maids who took care of her as if she was a baby. Even with Emmy’s protest, they undressed her, scrubbed her down in the bath tub, washed her hair, dryed her, lotioned her body, dressed her, dried and styled her hair. When they were about to put makeup on her, she finally lost her patience and shouted at them to leave her alone.
Scared silly, the four young maids quickly bowed before running out of the bedroom and closing the door tightly behind them. Emmy could only look in the mirror and see her cold dead emerald eyes stare back at her. Her chestnut hair, was loosely curled and shine under the glow of the light. Her dress was a fire red, that stood out too much for her liking. But life as a courtesan made it easy for her not to be embarrassed so easily.
She had gone along with Seoras because she had nowhere to go. No money to begin a new life. No family or friends to call her own. Now that she arrived to Seoras’s home, she could only start fresh here. Why she was there, Emmy would learn tonight.
Seth picked Emmy up when dinner time arrived. Emmy had learned his name from the four maids that now served her.
“Lady Emmy.” Seth bowed as Emmy opened the door. “It is time.”
Emmy walked out and Seth gasped in awe. Emmy, who was now polished and made up, looked enchanting and beautiful. She had an aura around herself that was cold yet alluring. It invited everyone’s eyes to look at her and pay attention to only her. When Emmy arrived with Master Seoras, he didn’t have much of an opinion of her. She was quiet and reserve. She was average to say the least. And she had a poison marking on her face, around her left eye, which made her even more unsightly. But the Emmy that stood before him, captivated him. No wonder Master Seoras was so attentive towards the girl.
Even now, her poison marking looked devilish and charming. It captivated his attention, making him think she was mysterious and dangerous.
“Please, this way.” Seth said as he walked one step behind Emmy, even though Emmy did not know where she was going.
“These Lady’s.” Emmy slowly asked. “Lady Avina, Lady Margaret, Lady Posy, Lady Jane and Lady Kylee. Who are they?”
“Lady Margaret is Master Seoras’s mother. They… have a complicated relationship.” Seth said. “Lady Avina is Master Seoras’s ex-fiance. They were betrothed when they were just babies. Growing up they did not meet at all. Lady Avina was against the betrothal and broke the engagement because she fell in love with a man she saw at the Winterhall Ball. Even though she did not personally meet the man she fell in love with, she stated quite firmly that she loved him upon first sight and ended the engagement with Master Seoras, under threat of suicide. Master Seoras quickly agreed to end the engagement, for he did not care for Lady Avina or her family. It wasn’t until much later that Lady Avina found out that the man she fell in love with at first sight was actually Master Seoras. She regreted her actions and tried to have her father and their family force Master Seoras to up hold the engagement, but they have not been successful thus far. So now she chases Master Seoras everywhere he goes. That shameless woman!”
Emmy smiled, Old Man Seth, the steward of the castle was such a gossip.
“As for Lady Posy, Lady Jane, and Lady Kylee.” Seth began to tell Emmy. “They are prospective women, who Lady Margaret wants Master Seoras to marry.”
“Does he like any of them?” Emmy asked.
“No! Of course not! You’re the first woman he ever brought home! Let alone look at with interest!” Seth said with conviction.
“Em.” Emmy said as she fell quiet again. Now she knew what her role was. Seoras brought her to the castle to pretend to be his woman and block every move Lady Margaret makes.
If that is to be her role here, then she will fulfill it.
