Ch. 7- Lance

Lance's POV-

As I finally decided to head back home, I felt this weird tugging sensation in the back of my head. I figured it was just a headache, so I didn't think much of it. How I was so wrong. I should've assumed these powers were going to be trouble, but I'm a naive, beautiful child.

As I went to sleep, the tugging had long since went away and my brother asked me if I was okay. I nodded and pretty much passed out. At around 9AM, I felt the tugging again, but it was different. It was like I was being drawn towards something.

I grabbed my shoes and decided to head out, and it was like my head was telling me where to go. As I kept walking, I quickened my pace, until I was finally running. I went and went, until I came to this hotel about half a mile from my house. Why am I here? I though.

I felt a tap on my shoulder, and I turned around, and came face to face with a beautiful girl and a bulky guy.

"H-hello?" I told them. The guy extended his hand, but the girl was starring at me.

"Hi, I'm Hunk. This is my friend Allura. We're here to talk to you about...." he looked around, "your new found powers," he said, excited.

"You're Lance, am I correct?" Allura asked. I nodded, confused on how she knew my name. But what I was more concerned about was what Hunk said. New found powers. How did he know?

"How did you know about the powers?" I asked him.

"I have powers too. Mine are more... air based. Your powers, I'm assuming, are water based?" He asked. I nodded, still concerned.

"Are you here to hurt me?" I asked.

"On the contrary, Lance. We're here to take you to America and show you how they work. There are 2 more Paladins like you, one with fire and earth powers. You'll meet them and get to learn how to use your powers if you come with us. And most importantly, your family will be out of danger," Allura said.

"My family's in danger?" I asked. She nodded, and explained to me about the Galra. As she kept talking, I kept thinking about my siblings and my parents, and how I couldn't let them be in danger. "I need to pack my things, but I'll go. To keep my family safe." They seemed shocked I agreed quickly, but they nodded.

"Alright then. I need to pack a few things, but I'll see you in an hour," I told them. I can't believe I'm running away. But it's for their own good.

   As I arrived home, I noticed everyone was still asleep, which was both good and bad for me. I wish I could say goodbye, but I knew if the had a hint of what was going on, they'd have to say one word and I would stay.

   I packed the bare essentials, from a few sets of clothes to my toothbrush. I most importantly packed our yearly family photo, because I felt like it would be a while since I'll be able to see them again. Just as I thought I was ready to leave, Luis woke up.

   "Hey Lance, what are you doi-" he didn't finish his sentence because he saw my bag. He gave me a look, and told me to explain. So I did. I told him about that day at the beach, and about Allura and Hunk. And I told him how I had to leave for America to keep them safe. He listen, never once calling me crazy. He got up, and gave me a big hug.

   "I'm going to miss you. But I have to go now. They're waiting for me," I finally managed to get out. He nodded, but not before getting this metal tin. He opened it, and gave me a neckless.

   "To remember the family by. To remember your roots, and to never forget that you're a McClain. Te quiero, hermanito chiquito," He said. I ran back out, before he could see me cry. I shoved it in my bag, not having the heart to see what it said.

   When I met up with Allura and Hunk, I had finally calmed down enough to make it seem like I wasn't just bawling my eyes out.

   During the car ride to the airport, I finally gave the neckless a good look, And realized what it said.

Oh yeah. From all the hectic running back and forth I didn't even notice what day it was today. Happy birthday to me.

By the way, the neckless inscription translates to "Happy Birthday Lance!/We'll always be there for you/ from your family"
