Shiro's POV

*Two months later*

"Shiro, you stay here with Matt and man the coms. Make sure everyone stays safe. You'll be tracking all of our movements and telling us where to go. Hunk and Pidge, you go and disable all security tech and try to disable all the weapons. Lance and Keith, you two will go in first. Make sure the coast is clear and rescue as many prisoners as possible. Lotor and I will go after you and head down to where he says they're holding Coran," Allura said. She let out a sigh, and closed her eyes. "I know I am asking a lot from you, risking your lives for someone you know nothing about, and I'd just like to say, thank you."

Dread was heavy in the room, but nobody protested. They knew the severity of this rescue mission. Not only was Coran's life on the line, but so was Voltron's reputation. If we could successfully pull this off, people will believe in the legend once again.

Once Allura finished the meeting, one by one everyone began exiting the room until only Keith, Lotor and I were left. Knowing Allura, I went over to her and took her hand, giving it a gentle squeeze.

Ever since we've known each other, the way to show how we support one another is with a squeeze of reassurance. We did this a lot after Coran's funeral.

She looked up, and I could see the tears forming in her eyes. This is the moment that all our history has prepared me for. So, I mustered up the words for my leader speech.

"You know Allura, we're all here for you. Keith, Lotor and I know how much Coran meant to you. He was basically a father to you, and we know how hard his death was for you. It was on all of us. He wasn't just like a father to you, he was like an uncle to Keith and I. So don't doubt for a second that we wouldn't help you in getting him back." She nodded, but was still unconvinced by Shiro's words of reassurance. And so, Keith's bluntness is what saved the day.

"Also, this is all par for the course in becoming heroes. The team has grown extremely close in these last two months, and we'd all follow each other anywhere. Hunk would follow Lance, Pidge would follow her brother, and we all know Matt would follow Shiro off a bridge," Keith teasingly told his brother. Even with the blush on my face, I cleared my throat.

"And Lance would take a bullet for Keith. Everyone would follow each other, because we're a team. And a team has to stay united. We know we're fighting the good fight, so don't ever feel guilty of us helping you," I said. she cleared her throat and her face changed from one of uncertainty and fear to determination.

"You are right, Shiro. Thank you for the reminder. We need this win, not only for Coran, not only for Voltron, but for the team. We need to reassure each other that we will be there, fighting side by side to defeat the evil. I'll finish up anything that needs to be done for tomo-" Lotor cut her off.

"Oh no, young lady. Allura, look at me," he said while grabbing her shoulders to turn her around to face him," we're going to go sleep. You haven't slept in days, and everyone needs a break. The paladins and Shiro are going to rest up, because although we love you and we want to go on this mission, we know the stakes. They want to spend time together, because it might be the last time they do. Casualties may occur, and the least we can grant them is some last moment together. Here," he offered his hand, "let us go," he said. Although she looked ready to argue, she understood that sometimes it's better not to argue with Lotor. Especially when he gives her the "Allura" look, as Lance so teasingly nicknamed it. With that look, Allura completely crumbles. But so does Lance whenever Keith even looks at him, so he has no room to tease.

"You are right. It might be time to give myself a break. Thank you for looking out for me, love." She took his hand and both walked out of the room, leaving Keith and I to ourselves. We just stood there awhile in pensive silence until Keith broke it.

"He's not making her taking a break for her sake, is he?" He asked. I shook my head.

"He said so himself, he knows the casualties that might occur. He's at a higher risk than all of us, being crowned prince of the galra. They might have burned out the year, but it can't change destiny. He will become king, one way or another," I said. Nodding, Keith left, also understanding the casualties that may occur. He needed to see Lance. Sure, we were brothers and losses may happen, but we both know we've spent a lifetime with each other, and we need them more than ever right now.

Which reminds me, I need to find someone too.

Ha ha..... I'm not dead. But I've been extremely busy with junior year. No excuse for the summer though. Anyways, I have an offer. I can either update this in chapters with the extremely long wait time, or tell you how this story ends in bullet points in one chapter. You decide.
