A few days later, I answered Jia's call.
"Hey," I said as I put the phone on my phone and held it there with my shoulder.
I continued my work and kept typing.
"Hi, Bei," Jia greeted. "Did you, by any chance, talk to Miguel?"
I paused what I was doing and shiveled my chair backwards, finally holding the phone properly. I was kinda nervous.
"Why are you asking?"
"Well," Jia paused. "Miguel came to see me again today. But this time, he said he was going to respect my decision and leave me alone."
Woah. I didn't exactly expect Miguel to follow my advice. He did get shit-faced drunk that night and I doubted he would remember what we talked about.
"Okay. So is that a problem?" I asked with hesitation.
I was kinda scared that I was too nosey and did something I shouldn't have done.
"No," Jia answered. "I'm just curious. And I owe you. So how about dinner? Libre ko."
I let out a sigh of relief and went back to my original position and started typing.
"Does your offer applies to delivery here in the office? I'm finishing some work pa kasi. Or we can do a raincheck."
Jia chuckled. "I'll be there. See you in a few."
"See you," I said with a smile.
I sent Jia the address of the office and I already informed my secretary to assist Jia when she arrives. I started working faster so when Jia arrived, I was almost done.
"Hi," she said as she entered the room. She looked around before nodding her head. "This is so like you."
"What does that mean?" I asked as I walked towards her.
I kissed her on the cheek and took the paperbags she was holding.
"Simple and neat," she replied as she helped me take out the food from the paperbag that I put on the small table in my office.
I've always liked things simple and I am pretty organized so I guess she's right.
"Wow. It's like you read my mind," I said when I realized she brought chinese food.
She chuckled. "Buti tama ang hunch ko."
We sat side by side on the small couch on my office and we started to eat.
I observed her and noticed that she didn't seem like she cried so I pointed it out.
"Hindi ka umiyak?"
She smiled sadly. "I did. I think sa dami nang iyak ko these past few weeks, bumibilis na recovery ng eyes ko."
I nodded.
"So what did you tell him?"
I shrugged. "A few things, I guess. Do you really want to know?"
She thought about it before shaking her head.
"Are you sure about your decision, Jia?" I finally asked. "You know, Miguel might be trapped in a loveless marriage. Their kid might be worse off growing up seeing his/her parents like that compared to having loving parents and a loving stepmother."
Jia stopped eating and looked like she was thinking hard about it before she looked at me.
"Are you telling me that I should take him back and make things work?"
