I awaken from my sleep, coated in a damp sweat. My pulse is racing, eyes blinking rapidly as I try to process where I am. A surging pain aches deep within my lower abdomen and I cry out immediately in agony, the arm around my waist tightening.

Niall wakes up behind me quickly, his hand catching my hip. I yelp again in pain as he frantically sits up, flicking on the bedside light.

"Shay? Shay what's wrong?" He's frantic, clammy hands cupping my face as mine go to my belly.

"It hurts," I cry out in a whimper, teeth sinking into my lip. Tears are rolling down my face, Niall staring at me with wide eyes as if he was unsure of what to do.

"Fuck," He curses, slipping from the bed and running out of the room. My fingernails dig into my skin as another sharp pain spreads throughout my abdomen. I can hear Niall on the phone as I roll to my side, my legs dangling over the bed in an attempt to stand.

When I do get to my feet, my knees wobble and I have this strange sensation that's making me want to push. But I know that I can't. It's too early, and if what I thought was happening is what was really happening, I was in trouble.

"Niall!" I scream as loud as I can, catching myself on the wall before I could fall. My eyes begin to feel heavy at the exact same moment I feel something trickle down the inside of my thigh. With one glance down at my pyjama shorts, the scarlet red staining my pale skin has me collapsing forward.

My eyes blink closed, but the impact of the floor doesn't come; Niall's arms cradling me from the fall. I feel him hoist me up, one arm supporting my back and the other under my knees.

With one last trembling breath of his name the soothing blackness of unconsciousness takes me.

*

I feel his fingers tracing the underside of my arm before I can even open my eyes. I know it's his fingers, because only Niall's touch could have me feeling like I was burning from the inside out. If I could speak I would have asked him to cup my chin like he always does, the gesture something I found comfort in now.

But I couldn't seem to open my mouth. Maybe I wasn't supposed to be awake yet, I don't know.

When his touch falls away I'm disappointed, wanting nothing but for him to hold me. I don't feel pain anymore, in fact I don't feel anything at all except the lingering sensation left behind on my skin from his fingertips.

It's then that I seem to be able to force my eyelids open, squinting at the brightness of the room. It's daylight now, no longer the wee hours of the morning.

My right hand moves up then and I realize I have an air mask over my mouth. My fingers pry the device away and I take a breath of the outside air, Niall's head shooting up.

"Christ, Shay" He whispers, getting to his feet. Before I can even say anything he's kissing my forehead, tucking hair behind my ears.

"Are you feeling okay?"

"What happened?" I ignore his question, everything coming back to me. My hands go to my stomach under the blanket, rubbing soothingly over the bump.

"You almost went into early labour." He tells me painfully, taking his seat again.

"Is everything okay though?" I know he can see the fear in my eyes.

"For now, yes. You have to take it easy for a while though." Niall runs his long fingers through messy hair, a sign that he's probably been doing that all night.

"Okay." I don't know what else to say to that.

Niall swipes his tongue over his lips, dampening them. I watch him silently as he opens his mouth to speak again, but the door flies open before he has the chance. Both of our gazes snap in the direction of the doorway, my eyes widening as I see my mom with Arabella standing behind her.

"Mom!" I cry, her arms surrounding me as soon as she makes it to the bed. I break out in a fit of sobs, my face buried in her shoulder. She hushes me, her hands squeezing my back. I can sense Arabella standing over us but my eyes are too blurry from salted tears to see.

"I came as fast as I could Shay" My mom informs me, her hand now soothingly rubbing my back in an attempt of calming me.

"Thank you" I cry, clutching tightly to her. I never thought she would be here, not now, and I am so happy that she is. My mom is everything to me and to have her here, not screaming at me like my father but rather comforting me, is the best thing I could have wished for.

"You must be Niall." She says after pulling away from me. I watch as her dark brown eyes, similar to the shade of mine, harden on the blond boy seated beside my bed.

He stands up, holding his hand out to her.

"It's nice to meet you Mrs. Stuart."

I watch as her bottom lip quivers as she attempts a smile, looking down to me and stroking my arm.

"Please, call me Pam."

"You promise to take good care of her?" My mother asks Niall for about the fifth time, dabbing the corner of her damp eyes.

He smiles, lacing his fingers through mine.

"She is in good hands, ma'am."

Mom smiles again and plants another kiss to my cheek. She said that she would stay in New York if I needed her, but I knew she had other priorities back home in Kentucky that were more vital. I was fine, it was just a minor scare and I had Niall to help take care of me.

Before she can delay things any further we practically force her into the cab that's taking her to the airport. Over the last 3 days, I've had countless visitors including my brother and Arabella, but my dad was a no-show. I was fine with that, I would prefer not to see him at all than have him belittling me.

"You know, we should start thinking about names." Niall randomly says on the drive back to his apartment. My hands are subconsciously rubbing over my sore belly. He's been kicking a lot more lately, my ribs hurting.

"Well, what are you thinking?" I ask, sparing a glance over at him.

Niall shrugs, though I have a feeling he has a few names in mind that he isn't willing to share.

"Oh come on." I reach over and poke his side, making him squirm. I have never met someone that had more ticklish sides than Niall.

"You probably won't like them" He blushes, biting his lip. I frown, glancing out of the window and grabbing onto the door as Niall parks the car.

He gets out before I have the chance to badger him about names some more, opening my door for me. I insist on getting out myself but he's having none of it, carefully pulling me by my hips up and out of the car.

I didn't want to be babied but it was nice to have some help.

"Tell me" I press as we walk towards the front doors, Niall's hand gripping mine. He looks down at me, blue eyes staring into mine for a moment before he breaks the contact.

"Well, I like Rory. It's Irish origin." When I look up at him, his cheeks hold a pink blush. I can't help but smile, Niall pressing a large palm to the door as he opens it for us.

"I like Rory."

He grins down at me, listening intently while I list off a bunch of names that I like.
