Chapter 2

I’d been in the hospital for about a week now. I’d spoken to therapist’s and Emily and James had called me. My parents had been contacted and they’d arranged for a friend of there’s, Miss McColin, to take care of me for a while when I got out of hospital since the deal they were working on was taking longer than expected.

It was hard though, not being able to see. I just couldn’t seem to get used to it, couldn’t seem to be able to find my way around or anything like that. Lucy was nice though, she made me endless cups of tea and was always happy to chat to me about nothing in particular. I was getting a bit depressed though, I knew it and I’m sure she noticed to. My love in life had been drawing and now I couldn’t even do that.

“There’s someone I want you to meet.” Lucy told me one morning. “She came in a few day’s after you and I think it would do you some good to talk to her.”

“Why?” I asked seemingly exhausted. Doing nothing for days on end was tiring you know.

“She’s lost her sight to and like you she cant do what she loves anymore and what she’s been training to do since she was eleven. She’s only a year younger than you. Just talk to her.” I bit my lip thinking about it. “Five minuets that’s all I ask.”

“Fine.” I said giving up on fighting her.

She helped me out of bed then led me down a few halls before sitting me in a chair. “Have fun.” She practically sang before walking off and leaving me stranded.

I sat there in silence for a little bit before I herd a shuffling in the bed besides me. “If you don’t want to talk you don’t have to but can you let me know now so I can go back to sleep.” The person in the bed next to me said.

“I, um. Hi.” I finally managed.

“Hi to you to. I’m Scarlet by the way. Nice to meet you.” She said and I could hear the smile in her voice.

“Cyan.” I told her. “So, um, how did you…”

“Go blind. Ow your gona laugh at this it was hilarious. Painful but funny. One guy filmed it and sent it in to you’ve been framed.” She laughed. “Give me you hand I want to feel up your face while I tell you so I know what you look like.” I reached out my hand until I found the bed. Quickly she grasped it and felt up my arm until she reached my neck. “Ok so I’m sixteen and work as a riding instructor at this riding school. Horses and all that. And this little pony, horrible thing, took off with this poor kid. So I rushed over grabbed the pony who then spun throwing the kid off. Since I’m a ninja I caught the kid only to have the pony kick me in the face. One hoof went right in my eye and literally burst it the other eyes if just badly grazed so there’s a little hope of getting my sight back in it but not much.”

She felt my face gently as she talked, tracing my jaw bone with her fingers before running her hand through my hair. “Do you die your hair?” She asked me.

“Yere it’s blue.” I told her smiling a little.

“Ow my god really! That’s awesome. I’m ginger, well more red, naturally but I have all black stripes in it which are overly cool and gave my mum a heart attack when she saw them. And then there’s the whole goth thing, now that nearly killed her.” She laughed again still incredibly positive.

“How are you so positive about everything?” I asked her. “You cant see, your never going to be able to teach riding again and…”

“It’s because I’m a ninja,” she joked. “What’s the point being negative about it. My life’s changed but it isn’t ruined. I cant teach riding but I can still ride. I can still do yard work and be around horses. The only difference is that when I start my new school, because I’ve been home schooled for a few years and I was supposed to start this week but for obvious reasons I didn’t, I will have absolutely no idea where to go.” She laughed again. “Besides now I can tell everyone to call me Scar since I have a huge scar over my eye.”

She grabbed my hand a guided it to her face. I could feel the bandages that covered it but under then I could feel where she’d had stitches for a large cut. “Jesus.” I said.

“Doesn’t exist.” She continued still smiling. “So what do you want to do when you finish school?”

“I wanted to draw comic books or manga but…” She yet again cut me off before I could finish.

“That so cool. I love manga. And have to admit I’m more than a little in love with captain America but Jessie comes first. You know Jessie Anderson right? From yu-gi-oh. Has awesome blue hair like you and a north American ascent that’s just to die for.” She carried on about all her favourite anime and manga characters along with a bunch of super hero stuff. We just kept talking and talking until Lucy came and told me it was getting late and we both needed sleep.
