I think I’ve been sitting here for a few hour’s but I’m not really sure. It’s not like I have a way of knowing the time, I mean sure I’m wearing a watch out of habit but honestly what good does that do me, not like I can look at it any more.
I hear footsteps in the hallway and laughter before the door to the room opens. There this silence then, I’m not looking at who ever it is, there’s no point, I cant see them any way and I don’t think they really know what to say.
Then someone decides to break the silence, “Kyle mate, I’ve got to ask, why’s there a fag sitting on your bed?” I didn’t even flinch at the comment.
“Ow shut up Ryan, his parents are out of town and Sara’s been helping him. She probably just brought him over so she could keep and eye on him as for why he’s in my room…” Kyle trailed off, his voice going from harsh to soft and I felt his eyes on me. “Why are you in my room?”
I sighed. “She didn’t tell you?” I asked him in a small and honestly feeble voice that I was more than a little ashamed of.
“No, she’s out at the moment.” He said casually.
Nice of her to tell me, “Ow.” I said.
“Look mate I’m just gona go. See you at school tomorrow.” Ryan said before footsteps left the room and headed down the hall.
“You got a bruise on your collar bone that looks like a deformed hickey?” I asked him randomly.
“How’d you know?” He said answering with a question. Very Kyle.
“Your mum said,” I told him.
Immediately it was like I’d trodden on a snake as a hissing noise escaped his lips. “That bitch isn’t my mother.”
I nodded smiling a little, “Yere, the way she’s been acting lately she’s more like mine.” I almost laughed at that, almost being the key word there. “Thanks by the way.”
“For what?” He asked.
I smiled a little before shrugging. I wanted to say thanks for sticking up for me when I wasn’t there but I didn’t want to let him know I knew about that. “Sara asked me to stay here for a bit. She said to share your room so thanks in advanced for putting up with me I guess.” He just seemed stunned as he stood there. Trying to get out of the awkward silence I spoke up, a little happier this time. “What’s your room like? I’ve been to scared to move in case I break something.”
“Ow, well, um, its blue. Kind of like your hair but darker. There’s a walk in closet next to the door and a desk at the end of the bed that’s not against the wall. The bed’s a double bed with a single on top. And, um, that’s about it really.” He told me sounding kind of weary. I nodded, still to scared to move. “Are you ok?” he asked me sounding honestly concerned.
I just shrugged. “It was so hard being in my own house. I just, I just am having a hard time being in yours.”
He probably nodded or something. There was a few seconds silence before I felt a hand on my shoulder, “Come on, you cant just sit there.” And with that he pulled me up and started walking me around the room. “So this is the door,” he said guiding my hand to the door handle. “ Then here’s the cupboard next to it.” He lead me over before stopping suddenly. “This is the desk, and the beds just behind it. The ladder to the top bunk is next to the desk. And under it there’s a few bean bags. The TV on the wall get turned on by these remotes,” He said handing me two remote controls. “You press the red, I mean the button in the top right to turn the TV on and the little arrow buttons under it to change channel. I keep them on the desk so they shouldn’t be to hard to find.” I nodded as I carefully placed them back on the desk. Using my right hand I felt out in the air until I found the ladder of the bunk bed. I went to climb up before he stopped me. “There’s not many post things under it to keep it up so I wouldn’t go up there if I was you.” He said. I nodded before sitting on the edge of the double bed. There was a few minuets of awkwardness before I felt him sit down next to me. “Is it that bad?” He asked.
