IVAN:
I raced out of the building, Abbi's panic fueling me.
The only thing I made out was I should come home and that Rufi was not talking.
The moment I got home I called again."We're coming" she said and dropped the call.
'We' whatever was wrong Rufi was coning with her. Alive.I can't say how many bottles of beer I drowned in the next hour but I was pretty boozed by the time the front door opened, but even alcohol could not stop my heart from shattering into a million pieces as Rufi laid limp on her friend.
"Baby" I raced towards her totally sober.
"Ivan" she whimpered falling into my outstretched arms.
Holding her firmly against me I asked Abbi "what happened?"
"I don't know " she chocked on emotion
"Thank you" I swallowed
I laid her in bed before coming back down to see Abbi, Ana-Blaire was with her.
"Pop" she greeted.
"Hey princess, how are you?"
"What's wrong?" She asked worried sensing some tension.
"Momma, is not feeling well"
Sometimes I forget Ana-Blaire was a baby still. Fear made her look so much the baby she was now. "Like the last time?"
"No love" I assured her " go see her, she in bed"
"Sometimes I forget she's 5 " I said after she left.
"She's strong, like Rufi"
I sat beside her "Abbi, what happened there?"
"I'm not sure, she was returning from getting ice-cream, she was smiling, then she froze. Panicked. I think it has something to do with the speaker"
"Which speaker?"
"The one speaking when she returned"
"A man?" Could be Andro.
She shook her head "A woman"
Why would a woman frighten Rufi? "Do You know this woman? Have you heard of her before?"
"No"
There's more to this "I'll talk to Rufi when she wakes up "
..........................................."Babe, please you have to eat something" I pleaded with her.
She held the pillow tighter and curled up as if to burrow into the bed.My heart ached for her. " Baby"
"No" she said broken
I placed the bowl I had with me in the bedside table and sank into the bed beside her.
She let go of the pillow immediately seeking the comfort of my arms. I held her, comforting her the only way I knew.
When I thought she was asleep because the arm she had around me went limp she whispered "I saw my mother today"
"She was the speaker?" I voiced the first thing that came to mind.
"Yes"I inhaled deeply. I've never been in this situation. I don't exactly know what to say. After a few seconds I sighed "it will be alright"
"She saw me" she whispered again.
"You are not who you use to be, you are stronger, you are loved. If anyone should be frightened it would be her not you."
