Wait for me.

Rufi reminded herself as she found herself wishing for death. Open him again?
“Why?”

The doctor looked like she hated her job in that moment.

“There’s a tumor in his head” her tone said i-wish-it-wasn’t-there

“Tumor? How?” Adrian spoke up.

“Because he had been under an induced coma for two weeks the tumor had enough space to grow, if he wakes up in this state he might die, the tumor rest against an important tissue in his brain. We don’t want to take too much chance. This surgery is high risked considering we opened him two weeks ago”.

Another thing to add to her two weeks rhyme. Two weeks since her husband went under the knife.

“What are his chances?” Callie hide her emotions

“50:50”

“Alright” Rufi gulped

“When is the surgery” Adrian asked.

“As soon as she signs” the doctor gestured towards Rufi.

“I swear I’m gonna kill someone” Callie growled.

No need to mention who, even Diana knows to stay clear of Callie.

* ********************************
If anyone knows the feeling of a woman who was told her husband had tumor in his brain in the theater, as if that wasn’t enough the surgery that was scheduled for three hours was counting its fifth hour.

well, if there’s anyone who could explain that feeling then Rufi needed that person right now. She was numb, she couldn’t feel anything, not pain, not guilt, not fear, not self pity, not hope. not even anger. Someone must have snapped her emotional switch off.

Wait for me, don’t give up.
Your strength is my strength.
If you give up I would too.

Those words were the only thing helping her to continue. To hold on to life. After seven agonizing hours the doctor came out with a smile of triumph on her face.

“He survived” she said smiling tiredly.

“Aah!” Rufi sighted in relieve as she fell to the couch “Ivan don’t you dare scare me like this again”

“What took you so long” Callie grumbled childishly.

“I told you the surgery was high risked, we encountered a challenge, we almost lost him.
Looks like he had someone  holding on to him" she eyed Rufi affectionately.

“He sure does” Ms. Nelson laughed.

“When will he wake up” Seth asked.

“That’s something only he can decide, his body has more than its share of workload to handle. A bullet wound close to the heart, the effect of a fall, glass piercing his head and now a neurosurgery. He’s in a comatose state now”

“induced?” Maria asked

“no” the doctor replied “that’s his way of saying I have too much to do, we have to be patient with him, he needs time to recuperate."

Funny but everything this cute doctor was saying wasn’t making it to Rufi’s brain the latest rhyme in her head was …..

He survived
Ivan was breathing
He was alive
He wasn’t giving up

“He’s alive” she said to the room

“Yes he is”

“You won’t let me see him would you?”
