"Goodbye queen Cleo."
Another chunk of meat was placed in front of the halera.
While she had been occupied with Anu the entire tribe had agreed to bring them going-away presents.
This meant an offering almost every time she turned.
Cleo didn't complain, and let Anu, Jynx and Anya eat all they could for the journey.
It was impressive how much three werewolves could eat.
Anu was able to eat what seemed his own weight in food. She supposed it wasn't too surprising since she had seen him devour multiple haleras in a battle.
Cleo shuttered at the thought.
She filled her own stomach and then looked out at the crowds. There were many who needed this meat and there was no way she could eat it all, even with three large werewolves.
Pushing through the crowds that seemed desperate to see her, she made her way to the alpha's rock where Chrome was standing and trying not to feel dizzy.
"Hey Cleo. I'm still not ssure how to do thiss."
Cleo walked up to him, the crowds finally standing back to let the alphas on the rock. "Neither am I. Neither is anyone. You will be a great leader as long as you can admit you can't do everything."
He slowly nodded his head, looking over the tall rock again, his straight mane tingling at the sight.
"You will get used to it. Heights are not bad once you ignore the drop."
"Easy for you to say, alphas are bred to be fearless."
"You don't have to be a high bred to have confidence." Cleo stood by his side and looked out over the swarming tribe, wolves still entering in with meat offerings. "My father was raised under privilege and generations of breeding and he was always a coward. You had courage to speak to me even if it meant we could both be killed. Someone who has fear in the face of danger is far more fit to be a leader than one who has courage with no danger at all."
Chrome slowly nodded his head. His eyes locked on the blood wolf down below. Anu was heading towards them. That sent a shiver down his back worst than the heights. He recalled their confrontation. Standing up to Anu was the most terrifying thing he could have ever done. Chrome saw how that monster sucked the life out of alphas easier than death itself. His eyes stung at the memory of the powerful venom filling the air. Cleo was right about one thing, he could stand up for his beliefs even if he was too terrified to stand straight. He stood taller at the reminder of his own courage.
Chrome's mind snapped back into focus as he heard Cleo speaking to him, her words fading in.
"-I feel it would build their trust in you and solve both of our problems."
He looked at her sheepishly, not wanting to admit he wasn't listening. "Thatss a good idea Cleo. How would I do that exactly?"
She looked at him a little dumbfounded. She could see right through him, but spoke slowly, repeating herself. "Tell the tribes to gather the rest of the offerings, and divide them to those who need it most. I believe you can handle that as a High Alpha."
Chrome nodded as Cleo started to walk back down the side of the rock.
"Oh, and Chrome." She turned back to look at him. "Listening will be a very valuable skill too."
