The pack gathered back at the apartment. While the others got ready for bed, Melody came to Fay to answer some questions.
"What was that you said about Dragon blood?"
Fay shrugged and turned to her. "I just thought you were a Dragon that's all."
"Why?"
"You have Dragon magic in your blood. That's why."
Melody shook her head slowly. "No, I have VENOM in my blood. Cursed venom. That is why it feels different to you. That is why I am hunted."
Fay's nose crinkled. "How did you even survive having that much venom in your blood? Even if it were possible to survive, you really think vampire venom would make you this big of a target?"
Melody stopped and thought. She had always pushed the blame on the venom. It was easier. However she had these monsters coming after her even before she had venom in her blood. From middle school to high school and even now still monsters came after. Even if it was the venom, the venom would have faded after all this time.
"No." Fay started again, along with Melody's thoughts. "Venom, no matter how strong, is not that powerful. Not even I, who has the ability to make wild wishes come true, am hunted that much."
Melody nodded at the thought. She had a point she could not deny but did not want to think about. It was easy to blame everything on the venom. She was scared to think of what else it could be. Now, it seemed, she was on the edge of discovering this great mystery.
Fay stood at her side, waiting intently for Melody to ask for the truth. She knew it was hard for Melody. So the two girls stood there anxiously. One daring to discover the answer to her most pressing question. The other waiting intently to give the answer.
Finally, Melody closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and nodded for the answer. "No. No it does not make sense. How did I survive? Why am I being tracked? Why, for all these years, have I been hunted. Why am I having to leave from place to place?"
Fay gently reached over and took Melody's arm, showing Melody the veins under her skin. "You see this?"
Melody looked at her veins. Nothing looked too abnormal, they looked as they always looked.
"Now, watch." Fay gently squeezed her arm and her pupils dilated.
Melody felt something, a tingling, where Fay's fingers touched her.
Her eyes widened as Melody saw something change. The blue under her veins shifted to a gold and then glowed teal. Magic. Magic from her own blood. She had magic in her blood.
Something sparked in her mind and she knew it was true. It was true, but she did not understand. "How?"
Fay let go of Melody's arm, the glow fading and the color returning back to normal. "I do not know. All I know, is I have only seen this type of blood in a Dragon. Not any regular dragons either, no. This blood is something Ancient and powerful. It is dormant right now, I only sparked it for a second. I do not know how you have it or why."
Melody stared at her arm in shock. Had she really just seen that? Had she really just seen her veins glow? Memories continued to spark in her mind. Memories she could barely believe even existed. It was not clear, or even recognizable. It was only a feeling: muscle memory; yet it was there. A tingling in her arm and a spark in her mind that told her, sometime, she had used this magic. Just as quickly as the feeling came it disappeared. It was as if something was blocking her memory.
Something, or someone.
Her memory, it seemed, had been wiped.
Fay rested her arm around Melody's shoulders and took a deep breath. "I am sorry I do not know more. I am only telling you what I know."
Melody nodded slowly, pushing all she had learned to the back of her mind. She did not want to think about it.
It was then that Anya walked into the room.
Melody wasn't the only one who had a bone to pick with Fay.
